Most Catholics I've met will admit that evolution is more of a vessel for God's creation. I don't think the Pope has released anything official, but I think the papists (lolo, sorry) are probably the most progressive major religion right now...

If that's the official statement of the church bodies, then I'm genuinely surprised. As to this date, every religion I have yet seen considered evolution to be blasphemous.

This includes Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Lutheran, and Protestants. Along with a few non-denominational.

I'm aware that some Agnostic groups believe in evolution.

I think what he meant was the religion doesn't actually say evolution is wrong, it is just once again people using religion for their own purposes - the same way religious homophobics will use their religion to say it is wrong and you will be punished for being a homosexual.

My pastor told me the Bible is rather loosely translated. I don't see how evolution would be blasphemous. the word that they translated into days meant eons.

It doesn't need to be sexuality, but rather gender cues.

As a general rule, the more transparent homosexuals of the male gender tend to perform unconscious gender cues which would be more appropriate for females.

These males tend to be targets of abuse for walking, or sitting, or talking different, in a way which is perceived as feminine.

And these are people I knew of too. One friend of mine from like, 5th-7th grade, who I assume later went on to be gay (but I don't know for certain), was ridiculed heavily because of the way he crossed his legs and the way he walked. Everybody called him a faggot, and I helped him remember to sit and walk in a more masculine way so he wouldn't be bullied.

This is the ONLY thread in the whole forum where we get down and gritty and discuss the truly serious topics in as mature a manner as we can. We lay down our opinions and argue our points to get the topics out of our systems.

One of my friends told me they didn't believe in evolution because "if we were evolved from monkeys, then why do whales have similar bone structures to us as well?"

I stared her dead in the eye and said, "I have only taken one class on biology in my entire life and I can tell you the answer to that right now, with my little experience."

Her eyes sort of went wide and panicked and she changed the subject. I patted her on the back though for knowing that whales have hand-like bone structures in their fins. Most people that have told me they don't believe in evolution didn't even know that much, and it's pretty common fact.

Well, I have no other arguments to that. I can't argue with you about your experience. I guess it's like what someone said earlier - arguing environment can affect sexuality is foolish because there are too many factors or the argument is just futile to begin with.

The only reason we can't technically prove evolution right now is because there have only been detailed accounts of animals around for the last hundred years. In a couple thousand years (maybe even a million who knows) we'll still have all the pictures and records from now, so we can compare them. But I mean, gravity is a theory too, and people don't give it any shit for that...

I think it's important to define what science calls a theory.

A scientific theory does not mean "This might be false"

It more along the lines of means "We are 100% sure this is a fact, and we are just hammering out the fine details of how it works," Gravity and Evolution both fall under that category.

Of course, as a rule, any Law or Theory can in the future be completely overturned. It's pretty fucking rare for that to happen, and to the best of my knowledge; it is ALWAYS a revision, and NEVER a replacement of the theory...

The most well known one probably being the moving the center of the galaxy from Earth to the Sun. Major revision, but not a replacement of the theory that there are celestial bodies that orbit each other according to strict rules. They just tweaked the rules to make it more accurate.
