How is it retarded, again? Also, I said it was close not that it was Alchemy. That is also not what my entire post consisted of, but also that Alchemy had been preformed in the past.

Glenn T. Seaborg wrote:In 1980, he transmuted several thousand atoms of bismuth into gold at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.[19] His experimental technique, using nuclear physics, was able to remove protons and neutrons from the bismuth atoms. Seaborg's technique would have been far too expensive to enable routine manufacturing of gold, but his work is the closest to the mythical Philosopher's Stone.
Note the bold, that is one reason why its not practical or used much because it is more expensive to do than whatever you could create is worth. It is just rearranging atoms and protons. Gene splicing is similar because it is the same, rearranging genes and DNA to fuse two different foods together.

No it isn't.

That's like saying rewriting the code of a computer program to include elements from another computer program is alchemy.

DNA is just a form of data which is interpreted into a physical form, like computer code (zeros and ones) is interpreted into a visual form (what you see on screen).

my take on it is that you really are just rearranging things. in that sense, nothing is alchemy, since everything has the same building blocks and in the end you're just rearranging them.

alchemy, like turning lead into gold, isn't exactly comparable to gene splicing or rewriting some code. lead and gold have entirely different properties.

Yeah, but bronze is an alloy.

Tin and copper are elements.

I thought true alchemy was trying to make one element transform into another element... like lead into gold.
I think that's what she's implying. That's why it isn't stupid anime religion, because you're taking two pure substances and making an alloy. I don't think we have machines capable of siphoning enough energy to add/subtract protons from atoms, but I could be wrong. We actually had a long discussion about this in my Honors Chemistry class.

Alchemy isn't really anything in our modern era. You're basically worshiping "the whole equals the sum of the parts," which is a fundamental law of Chemistry. Dedicating your life to alchemy is like believing there really is a Triforce somewhere in the world.

Hey usually I'm not a dick but whatever.

Take this sort of topic elsewhere, doesn't go here.

Again, I only go for the philosophy of alchemy, not the actual science. Please understand the difference.
