So, loli/shota hentai. Should it be illegal?

Yes. People who pull "it's art" out of their booty are stupid. It doesn't "encourage" anything, but it's crude regardless.

Something being crude isn't quite enough justification to make it illegal though.
I think loli/shota are quite worrying fetishes and shouldn't be condoned. However, I think it would be better if the people perusing these would receive proper mental care, in a closed institution depending if circumstances warrant it (which I think would be rare), rather than jail time.

You do have a point.

Should rape hentai be made illegal as well?

I'd say it's the same situation.

But, if depictions of rape were made illegal, would it continue to be used to advance the plot of a story, just not as fap material?

I was directing it back to Syobon's argument.
And I never said anything about use of rape to advance plot in stories. That in and of itself is a little unsettling, though.

It's a pretty thin line to thread. I don't believe any topic should be censored, because silencing conversation on a subject can make the public unaware of important issues. However, it's pretty clear cut in the case of porn and hentai, where the subject is purely there for sexualization and fetishization.
I don't know how I feel about rape fetishism. I know there are people who fantasise of being raped, and I think it's a lot more common for people to have a rape or domination fetish while still having the moral sensibility to never want to do it to a non-consenting person (I'm talking about rape roleplay here, to be perfectly clear). As far as I know most rape also doesn't occur because of fetishism, but rather a general inability to control the lust for desire or wanting to completely physically dominate someone.
Still, this kind of thing does set off some alarm bells and maybe a conversation with a shrink wouldn't hurt to make sure you're still in control of your urges. I don't think it should be a legally enforced thing though, especially since psychiatry is already incredibly understaffed, as awfully pragmatic as that may sound.
Of course, porn where actual rape takes place is completely morally reprehensible and the creators and distributors of these should be trialled accordingly.

What are your responses to the argument, "Hentai's not real"?

It's not about that, it's about the psychological implications.
Honestly, I don't blame people for having those fetishes, I actually think they can't really help it and pity them in a way, but they do need to seek out help to make sure they never do something unforgivable.

To me, the existance of those fetishes is part of the "tough shit" doctrine. Its a natural human urge to want to indulge in your desires, no matter how reprehensible they are, and people tend to get very bitter about not getting any fulfillment. But you know what? Tough shit. Keep it in your pants, or its jail for you.

So do violent videogames/movies/music/books/scrolls/folk tales make people violent or is it just the media porn that has an impact on peoples psyche?

Honestly, I think it depends a lot on the person and how susceptible they are to influences. I've been playing violent video games all my life and I listen to some pretty violence-focused metal and I consider myself incredibly calm and it's unlikely I'll ever have to resort to violence in my life. However, I'm also pretty jaded and violence in media has definitely contributed to that. I'd say that if someone does pick up negative influences from things portrayed in media, then it says more about the person than it says about video games or whatever.

Considering nature is violent in it of itself, it's a little bit silly to suddenly try and label causality on something that's been around for a length of time where calling it "infinitesimal" would still be an overstatement.
