I can't speak as someone with down syndrome, but I can say that intelligence doesn't really correlate well with your value of life. There have been several instances where something has happened, and I've known more about it than the average person, and most of the time that happens it actually sucks more knowing what's going on.

Funny thing about perception is you only really get your own.

I have considered the meaningless of it all - but have come to the conclusion that all that need ever really matter to an individual is their own existence - considering things on a grander universal scale and the pointlessness of it all is a hoot to be sure - but it doesn't mean you should place any less importance on your own life and what you do with it - be it art, literature, family, friends - if it matters to you as an individual then it matters to somebody, it has importance, irregardless of the machinations of the universe.

I don't see why people need to feel important; Humbleness generally promotes better individual qualities than self-importance.

I mean, yeah, people need self-worth and all, but self-worth and self-importance are not synonymous terms.

Re-reading over those two comments I can see how I seem to contradict myself in the space of two posts.

To clarify: I was remarking more on individual self-worth (importance placed upon oneself) in the former post and arrogance (self-importance) in the latter post.

That's kind of what I was thinking about while typing the aforementioned message to my friend.
I would be devastated to have Down's Syndrome in my current state. However, because it is impossible to have Down's Syndrome after birth, I thought that I wouldn't know how I'd feel about it if I was born with it. I might be okay with Down's Syndrome if I was born with it, but I wasn't, so I wouldn't know.

I hate when people treat intellectual disabilities like some sort of horrific illness that people never ever recover from. It's not like that at all. They can function just as well in society as anyone else, they just need a lot of support.

Friendzone topic continuation:

If you feel that you've somehow been screwed over by your friend if they reject you, and/or you resent them for their decision, then the odds are you cared more about having sex with them then being their friend.

I'm not saying this about anyone from the conversation specifically, but sour attitudes from rejections like this are almost always coupled with the word "friendzone".

That assumption about people in the friendzone is bodaciously the only problem I had with the entire discussion in the first place.

No...no that is not the case...like...at all.

I think what he meant was the people that like, flip their shit over the "friendzone". Not people that are just like "Aw, man. That sucks." and then get over it and continue being friends without any real bitterness.

I know what he meant, that comment wasn't actually directly meant for balanced. I was rehashing my views on it from the other thread. I know that a lot of people just complain because they couldn't get in a girls pants, and it gives everyone else a bad name.

These people have no idea what they're talking about. Indiana recently passed something like this and it is AMAZING. "Oh, I don't personally agree with Unions and don't want to be forced to pay dues for something I don't believe is needed anymore, and could potentially force me to not work" Or, alternatively, "I think we still need unions and would like to security that comes with being in one, so I think I will opt in"
If a job cuts all of their benefits, people will leave for ones with them, it is simple business.

Personally, I believe unions are outdated, and unneeded. They only exist to make cheddar for the unions now a days. A fairly unneeded union strike is what caused Hostess to choose to liquidate the company, rather than deal with people being forced not to work (Even though they had record amounts of people breaking the picket lines to work, if I recall correctly [which should show you why unions aren't 100% favored already]), they just decided to give up on the company.

The problem is this whole Union thing is going to end up being cyclical. The Unions were necessary once and without proper regulation they will be again. Unions have a great deal of problems now, yes, but I think a restriction on what Unions are and are not allowed to do is better than a blanket ban. I know my dad has a lot of restrictions on what he can and cannot do thanks to being in a union, and it makes life inconvenient for him for basically no reason. These are the sort of things that should be done away with.

This isn't a ban, though, like they're trying to say it is. It is just the OPTION to opt out of the Union when you get hired somewhere that has a union.
