JESUS FUCK, I just got through reading the wikipedia article on the UK version. I'm sure there was a bit of wiki-bias in there... But it seriously made it sound like the entire comic was basically a jock-like kid generally bullying, torturing, and beating the crap out of gay boys.
HOLY JESUS FUCK. That ain't cool.

Hm. According to Wikipedia, the U.S. version of Dennis the Menace debuted bodaciously three days before the U.K. version. How did this happen? I mean, I know it's the 1950s, and it's a dispute between two different nations with different laws, but did anyone at least try to take legal action?
I guess the two syndicates probably just agreed to keep their versions of Dennis in their own respective countries. Gee, I wish folks could settle their differences that way these days.

its apparent not many of you know THIS Dennis The Menace
but think about it, if they can get away with this, they might start doing it with more shows, they could make a Politically Correct Torchwood and Doctor Who! D:

Well I don't have much experience with the shows you're speaking of, but wasn't Doctor Who just recently revamped anyways? I heard from people who watched the prior season(s?) of that show that they changed things in that one as well.
I-it's already happening.

NOT FUCKING POSSIBLE.
Anyways, those three shows are the Doctor Who Spectrum. Doctor Who can be enjoyed by most ages.
Sarah Jane Adventures is a little more childish for those cute british kids. (and me...)
And Torchwood is for the Doctor Who loving, Captain Jack obsessed, adult minded folk.
so far my favorite moment in any episode of Torchwood is when Gwen walked into the greenhouse area and found Jack and Ianto having sex. HEL-lo!
XD

Slippery slope is always a weak argument.
But if it's half as bad as the wikipedia article makes it sound, it makes me sick to my stomach that this comic wasn't canceled years ago. It sounds like it goes way beyond the lines of something that should have been acceptable.
Do we REALLY need a comic that glorifies hatred and bullying of gays, and represents such a bigoted individual as a hero?

It was the 70s; being gay wasn't exactly a-okay. Which doesn't excuse the comic, but you have to remember the time period.
re: pc-version: I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I hate how everything now has to be so PC and perfect. Let the old comic be the way it was; covering up the past isn't going to change it.

Regarding the whole gay issue:
Walter wasn't gay. He didn't seem to have any sexuality. Which isn't that hard to believe, considering they're flipping children! The entire 'Walter is gay' dispute comes squarely out of idiots believing that if you fill a stereotype, you must therefore be a person that the stereotype confers to.
The only thing Walter is is a pansy. Bullying pansies is not a point for a moral outrage over

Well, we didn't start it. Other people started it, and we followed it on.
Because we like drama.
Its fun.
People normally ignore that.
