Flash tips, please?

Post by MORGANMAN »

Okay, so I just nabbed myself a copy of Flash 8. Not CS4 or anything, but hey, I'm not arguing. Well, now that I have this big ol' slab of creativity in front of me... how do I use it? I'm sure that a few of you guys have at least messed around with it before, I mean, I saw that thing that Spoony did. So, I was just wondering, do you guys have any tips or good tutorials for doing basic animation stuff?

Wear the trenchcoat with nothing underneath, but make sure it's long enough to cover the whole legs, and wear boots so no one will suspect a thing until BLAM THEY'RE BLIND FROM YOUR FLASH!

Flash (from an animation point of view, I know a lot of people use it just for still images) is designed to be able to do as much as possible with as few key frames as possible. With that in mind, until you know what you're doing, I'd suggest using only key frames (and regular frames) until you get your sea-legs. Tweens, actionscripting and all the other crap is nice, but unecessary. There's nothing you can't do in it with just key frames.

Tweening is so buggy I want to shoot myself every time it doesn't do the front flip I want it to automatically do.

Using key frames takes patience, but it's better for the beginner.

I have a homemade video somewhere. It's done entirely with assembled E.V.O. sprites so you know it'll suck, but the animation was done smooth.

Also, tweening is a bitch. I had to constantly redo mine to get them to work.

Use Adobe Illustrator instead.

OH WAIT, YOU MEAN FOR ANIMATION.

Well, you can do it in Adobe Illustrator, but Flash is set up specifically for it, yeah.

Okaynevermind.
