I was wondering if there should be a thread about stuff that's nightmare fuel.

Because that just made me an insomniac.
Seriously, do not click that if you're reading this at night, both the audio and the video are terrifying. Do not go acting like you're brave and it can't be that bad, it is high octane nightmare fuel.

Lolita can screw herself.
We've been organic for one whole week now. We aren't going back. This is how we live, now.
We went to a tailgate market today. We had to wake up early, but it was worth it. Organic stuff for cheap. We also found a store that sells almost everything organic...
So yeah. I'm just bragging to you all how awesome my mom is.

Organic food is one of those things you need to look into before you start bragging about it.Airigh wrote:We've been organic for one whole week now. We aren't going back. This is how we live, now.

People claim all organic food is better for consumers, and better for the environment, but neither of those claims are really true...
Ken Green, professor of environmental management at MBS wrote:You cannot say that all organic food is better for the environment than all food grown conventionally. If you look carefully at the amount of energy required to produce these foods you get a complicated picture. In some cases, the carbon footprint for organics is larger.
Source. The Independant (British newspaper) wrote:The Pitfalls of Organics
Tomatoes
* 122sq m of land is needed to produce a tonne of organic vine tomatoes. The figure for conventionally-grown loose tomatoes is 19sq m.
* Energy needed to grow organic tomatoes is 1.9 times that of conventional methods.
* Organic tomatoes grown in heated greenhouses in Britain generate one hundred times the amount of CO2 per kilogram produced by tomatoes in unheated greenhouses in southern Spain.
Milk
* Requires 80 per cent more land to produce per unit than conventional milk.
* Produces nearly 20 per cent more carbon dioxide and almost double the amount of other by-products that can lead to acidification of soil and pollution of water courses.
Chickens
* Organic birds require 25 per cent more energy to rear and grow than conventional methods.
* The amount of CO2 generated per bird is 6.7kg for organic compared to 4.6kg for conventional battery or barn hens.
* Eutrophication, the potential for nutrient-rich by-products to pollute water courses, is measured at 86 for organic compared to 49 for conventional.
* The depletion of natural resources is measured at 99 for organic birds compared to 29 for battery or barn hens.
Source.Los Angeles Times wrote:A comprehensive review of research comparing the nutritional content of food that was organically raised with food produced with the use of synthetic pesticides has found no significant differences between the two.
...so when you brag about your mom buying organic food, you're bragging about paying more cheddar for the same quality food and doing more damage to the environment.
Sorry to burst your bubble but all the unfounded claims about organic foods really piss me off. All I care about is the humane treatment of farm animals.

What?Lolita wrote:AND THAT IS THE JOKE!DoNotDelete wrote:All I care about is the humane treatment of farm animals.
I was just saying organic food and humane treatment of farm animals are not the same thing.

Humane treatment of farm animals: nonexistant.DoNotDelete wrote:What?Lolita wrote:AND THAT IS THE JOKE!DoNotDelete wrote:All I care about is the humane treatment of farm animals.

You don't have free range eggs in your country?Lolita wrote:Humane treatment of farm animals: nonexistant.
'Humane' is letting them have some degree of freedom in the outside world as opposed to keeping them locked up in a tiny cage their whole lives.
