I need Facebook because that's how our class stays in touch and how we pass info and organize our work groups. I wasn't able to migrate them all to slack, so I'm stuck with it.
If I could I'd just use slack and whatsapp for everything, alas. Or Discord, since Skype is all kinds of horrible all the time.

I wouldn't be able to move the people I know off of Skype because too many people use Skype since it is the most well-known messenger right now, and hardly anyone can be bothered trying some other thing if there is no incentive to use it repeatedly.
I used Slack a little when I was pulled into a game project as a modeler/animator before the project died during my life troubles. It was really nice.

Me and some friends have been using discord. It's great for group chats. But more than a few people won't even try it. Skype's not even that good. Yet people won't even think of anything else.
Facebook was always garbage. I haven't used it for years. Tumblr and chats are more than enough for me.

Skype is fucking godawful to a ridiculous degree. But yeah every one is on it now.

Skype did not have a good contender for the longest time, so it lodged itself firmly into the corporate world and basically draws upon it's installed userbase to justify it's continued existence. How ironic that Microsoft them approached them with an offer

Alternatives like Google Hangouts now exist and work a whole lot better, but yeah: people have skype and they don't want to change....
Slack is becoming the new hotness in terms of chats though, even starting to supplant IRC and Jabber/XMPP in places, mostly because it has a good mobile app and dev support. Discord is also very nice but getting people to adopt it is a hassle, even though it is functionally just slack with better permissions and VoIP.

I also use Discord. Me and my friends used to use Curse Voice, but one of my friends had a lot of feedback problems with it that he couldn't seem to fix, so we switched to Discord recently. I like it. My only complaint is that for some reason one of us will randomly get muted from everyone else and we have to disconnect then reconnect to fix it. It happens pretty rarely though, so it's not a huge deal.

So there's some major stuff going in my city. The library department is being merged with the parks and recreation department. This has led to a massive power struggle as the various higher ups jockey for the most control they can get. I'm pretty much stuck in the same spot, but the sudden departure of a couple of people and the city's downsizing via attrition strategy has made me somewhat superfluous.
I'm not really mad about it tho, and I don't wanna double post in the work thread. I'm gonna have to wait and see what happens cuz I'm still an mvp as far as the library is concerned, but the city may have other plans.

I always subconsciously read that phrase as "sharks and recreation".

Boring automotive talk:
After I installed my new radio, the check engine light that's been on since I bought the truck disappeared. Disconnecting the battery probably reset whatever sensor was causing it, but after a day or so it came back on. YAY.
Someone showed me a neat trick, though. Put your key in the ignition, turn it to the On position just before where you would turn on the engine, then turn it off, turn it on, turn it off, turn it on a third time and leave it on. On my truck, and possibly many of your vehicles, the odometer flashed and offered the repair code for the check engine light. DIY diagnosis.
Anyway, the EVAP system has a large leak. The line that's supposed to send fuel vapors into a charcoal canister is leaking somewhere, so while my truck isn't necessarily suffering, it is pumping unfiltered emissions into the air. Once I figure out how to fix that, and replace the thermostat (which should hopefully give me heat in the cab!), I'll be good to go.

My roommate thinks our apartment is haunted.
I am unsure how to react. So far, I have resorted to the default of "no reaction whatsoever aside from pretending I didn't actually hear that part of what she said, because goddamn, I do not want to have that kind of conversation."
