My first biology teacher in high school didn't believe in evolution. He still taught it, but he made it pretty clear that he doesn't agree with it.

What really irritates me is that there is no other viable alternative. You either accept evolution as the likeliest explanation, or descend into childish refusal and digging around for evidence that will fit what you WANT the truth to be. But facts dont go away just because you dont like the implications, and trying to force others to belive you dont make your bullshit any more factual.

My mom has been in trouble with a couple school parents in her years as a teacher for teaching evolution and that the universe is billions of years old and stuff. Fun times.

I knew a pastor who believed in microevolution, but not macroevolution.

Oh, you mean Alan? If I remember right, he actually was a biology minor, so that makes sense. Or it might have been chemistry. I forget. He read a lot and had a lot of interests, so I don't remember what he actually had formal schooling in, and what he just picked up in passing.

Oh lawd, I know. I think your ma wasn't too pop flyin' with him either over some minor disagreement that she blew out of proportion.
Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
I always thought it strange that people on both sides think evolution is evidence that there isn't any higher power and all that. I think the last time this came up I mentioned that evolution and all the laws of physics we know so far just seems to be too convenient to have been chance.
Although, there's a chance that it really was all up to chance, and there's probably an infinite number of universes, each with some small variation that sets it apart. But then, you can also argue that, given an infinite number of universes, at least half will have a god or gods responsible for its creation, and the other half won't. And in at least one, hamster wheels will never squeak, due to a strange quirk of the physics there that also makes it impossible to book a reservation at that one restaurant down the street on Wednesdays.
(I dunno, I'm way out of it today. Lots of stress at work, may be getting another job soon, grinding my teeth at night)

Yo, I'm trying to find a program that will remind me to take breaks from my PC, but won't interrupt me if I'm in the middle of a game or something. Any recommendations?

to be fair that last one sucks any day of the year
Things that are awesome about Halloween:
-kids who are actually scared of me
-grown-ass men who are actually scared of me
-anyone who appreciates that I'm in character
-so many selfies with me
-parents who encourage their children to be brave and get rewarded for it
Things that are not awesome about Halloween:
-kids who think I care that they're not scared of me
-parents who won't bring their kids to the candy because we're too scary or insist that we're just people in costumes
-someone punching my uncle's neighbor's kid in the mouth over some stupid drone dispute
