Looks like I'm putting Linux on my next build, then. I don't like being harassed by advertising for shit I don't want or need.

You'd better use something other than Ubuntu then. It started sending everything you type in the Dash menu (equivalent to Windows' Start menu) to Amazon to retrieve ads it would display among the results (long before Windows did), and Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) cannot be trusted anymore for numerous reasons.

Fun fact: the Dash sends search requests for every new character you type (like Google), and since it's an online search there's a bit of lag, so for a while when users typed "analyze" they'd get gay porn.

So is there any OS to use that won't harass you with ads?

I heard about a strange fruit. A Buddha's Hand.

I'm not sure whether to be amazed or worried it'll come to get me.

Even the fruits are squids now.

There are thousands of Linux distributions that aren't Ubuntu. As far as I know it's the only noteworthy one that has any ads. Look at the list on the right side of this page for a top 100 of the most popular ones. If you want Ubuntu minus the bullshit, use Linux Mint or Kubuntu. I personally use openSUSE and I love it.

Do you ever grow out of the instinctive need to lie to your parents over awkward situations? I'm 29, I can be lazy and irresponsible all I want now.

I've never really had problems with anxiety before, but I'm leaving for college in 5 days and I'm honestly hella nervous. I've barely been able to sleep the past few nights and I keep eating all the time (though that's probably not too bad for now since I need to gain a little weight).

This is now the "Things That Make You Nervous And Worry But Really Shouldn't" thread. Yay!

I have 3 online classes. Today is the first day of classes. It's 8:40 AM right now. All of this is on BlackBoard. Out of the three classes, two are open. Out of the two open classes, only one (SQL class) has everything up ready to go. The other class (C++ II) has a list of assignments, all of them due on October 12th, which feels incorrect for a semester that ends in December. The third, unopened class is the portfolio building class that had me the most nervous for ages and now it isn't even online at 8 AM on the first day of classes which I feel is a reasonable expectation? I'll give them until 8 PM tonight before the nervous tears start. ;A;

i don't even know how long I have been a college/university student for
why do i still get the semester-first-day nerves??

edit: and so it's officially the first day of the fall semester
so when can the lovely fall weather start?

In my experience, online classes just need time to settle. Not everything is set on the first day. Haha, you know not much will happen the first week anyway, so you're fine.

It'll continue to exist until the bots take over again.

Does anyone watch Last Week Tonight? Their latest episode is great. They have a number you can call them at which is shown at the end, and it actually works and is super funny.

Penultimate college semester starts tomorrow. One of my class is called Interaction and Communication (ew). I got the syllabus already.
It involves psychology, communication, human interaction, roleplay, and holding a log of our progress/feelings/self-image that we have to update every week and turn in at the end of the semester. Just a cornucopia of things that make be throw up in my mouth.

If there's anything that years of mandatory P.E. has thought me it's that it's okay to lie about yourself to get rid of stupid personal log assignments. I'm not going to have a terrible grade again because of that "honesty" thing.
