I read its plot online before watching it as I didn't really intend to sit down and watch it, but I broke down and did after hearing more about it from 4chan /a/ board. I think that knowing the ending and how things turned out made it have less of an impact or maybe I was predisposed against it because it was supposed to be so sad and touching.
I talk about the plot here so:
I really enjoyed the first part when they were kids and innocent and it was nice, but then the main character, Takaki, started to get a bit annoying with how in love he was with the female lead, Akari. He was blocking out everything else almost and I began to feel bad for the other female, Kanae, which is to be expected. The problem is that it made me dislike Takaki and get mad at him for not being able to move on. This anger persisted into the third part when he was still not able to move on after almost 15 years, despite the fact that we see she has moved on. Then they see each other at the crossing and she doesn't wait and thats like his signal that he should move on? I don't get it. I guess maybe I didn't like the ending?? Ugh.
Anyways I do recommend it so somebody else can talk to me about it and maybe convince me otherwise, but until then Ill keep on be bleh about it.
On another note the animation is beautiful and I suggest seeing it for that reason alone. I think I will take a look at some of the other movies made by this Shinkai guy as I have read their plots as well and some of them have piqued my interest.
They got to see the cherry blossoms together again, like they had promised. I think the ending was telling us that, now that they had finally fulfilled that prmoise, he could move on.
I saw it forever ago after a friend told me about it. The art was AMAZING. I found myself missing a lot of the subtitles because I couldn't stop staring at the sky. The music was great, too. I didn't like surfer girl. I tend to like the first pairing I see and reject all other love interests.

I did. My friends did, too. Being little girls, we didn't really know what they looked like, so we left most of it up to our imaginations. My favorite one was the one my best friend drew. It was 3 circles stacked on top of each other, like an upside down snowman.

They did? I was under the impression they never really met again... The surfer girl was interesting, although I did feel a bit bad for her because of the main char.

Well, they didn't technically "meet." But when they saw each other on the street, they knew who the other one was, and there were cherry blossoms falling. This look of peace came over Takaki's face, so I assumed that meant he was pop flyin' they had seen the cherry blossoms together again. Even if they weren't technically "together."
Meh, I felt nothing for her. Not really sure why. I just didn't care much for her.

I suppose so.
I was just mad at him for not being able to get over her for like 15 years, by the time he sees her again and realizes she moved on, he finally smiles and does. Kind of funny since when he was on the train in the first part he hoped that she didn't wait for him because he was running late, but she did. However in the end she didn't wait for him and got on with her life sort of like he would have wanted.

I didn't think of that. I am glad she didn't wait her whole life for him, though. It kind of rustled me off when they showed Takaki writing those texts but never sending them.
Oh look, a page get.
