what has happened to Discovery lately

It seems like the educational channels are running out of ideas and selling out. Discovery got this, History Channel resorted to reality shows. Seems to be on a bit of a downward slope unless they get new ideas or broadcast some of their previous shows again.

Just to clarify though, I can only really speak for History channel. I haven't seen Discovery, Animal Planet or what have you in a very long time.

Its simple, educational content DOES NOT PAY, except WW2 material for some reason. The Learning Channel gave up years ago, turned into TLC and is currently airing what amounts to modern day freakshows mocking the lower classes. And people eat that shit up. People will tune in for reality shows about fake rednecks, storage auctions and documentaries about aliens and nazis, because its the kind of programming that either makes you feel better about yourself, gives some exciting thrills similar to a game show, or makes the world seems like a more mysterious, exciting place.

I just spend almost an hour hunting down a bug in a simple bash script that ended up being caused by a fucking unnecessary space when assigning a variable value.

No I feel your pain, I've learned not to idly throw banana peels or anything like that in my bedroom trash because gorram fruit flies.

A few days ago I started hearing clicking through my headphones, and yesterday they died. I got a new pair, and now I'm starting to hear that same clicking noise. It doesn't seem to be driver related, and it's starting to piss me off because google gives jack for results.

Problem might be the port, try your headphones with a different device (our port if you have muliple, my front panel audio in port produces static for instance). The problem is that your port might actually be damaging your headphones though, be wary of that as you wouldn't hear a difference when switching devices then.
