I really do like how scratchy everything looks with you're style, Stranger. It's really striking, and a fairly unique style from what I've seen.

I mean, that Djinn looks boss as hell.

Thanks! I like them, too.

Also, better some days, worse others. I'll be speaking to my boss about transferring as soon as possible to a non-cashier job, and have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday to check my progress. If my boss won't let me transfer, though, I'll be giving them my two week notice, unfortunately. I can tell already that any recovering I've done would be undone by a day or two tops of cashiering again, especially the way they schedule me and the lines they have me work. I'll be okay, though.

Yesterday I doodled one of my characters a bit, because I wanted to try and see if I can finally make up a good design for her because I've been having so much trouble with the clothes. I doodled the character two times, and the second sketch just turned out so good, I'm still amazed how great the face turned out.
Here's a comparison to my normal approach to faces, and the actual, more 'correct' way.

But maybe that's just me and it's simply because the details look better, heh. Either way I'm a bit torn now, because the left version is more my style, and I simply don't like drawing the approach on the right. If you'd ask me why, I'd say that it just feels... dumb drawing it, I can't explain it any better.

The answer is easy, if you dont like drawing a certain way, stick with the one you enjoy.

Even if the less enjoyable way is anatomically more correct and proves better results?

Sure, art is all about developing your own persoal style that you enjoy using. Its useful to know anatomy, but that doesnt mean you have to strictly adhere to it. Go with what YOU like. And better results is subjective.

You should choose styles based upon which provides more satisfying results, both in the context of the quality of the work and your feelings about the work.

Looking at your drawings though, I would say that the one on the right looks like it simply has more detail and better line quality then being in a completely different style. Personally I would go with that one because it just looks better. Although I feel drawing should be more about producing something with good quality then anything else, and you may feel there's something different to it then that.

Theres no point producing art that you dont enjoy working on. With the right style, even the lamest of commissions or class projects can be fun, but if you force yourself into a style that you dont like, you do both yourself and the art a disservice.

The Idea is to try to find a style that serves the artist and the work. A work shouldn't be unenjoyable but you shouldn't necessarily draw a certain way just because you like to. And it isn't like Tatzle doesn't like drawing 2 as a product, she just doesn't like that actual process. The satisfaction of producing a superior work may outweigh any tedium from drawing that way, although it also may not.

Tatzle, I suppose you should choose whichever piece you enjoyed producing as a whole more, but which piece that is is up to you. I still think you should at least practice with the other style.

Another approach would be doing studies of anatomy, as that would probably help you produce better work overall style.

Both sides provided good arguments, I'll think about it.

I would like to know what you think about the second drawing style feels 'dumb,' if you can put it into words. If you can't then don't worry about it.
