But yeah, I wonder what will happen to these kids, probably life for the 17 year old and the younger kid gets some juby time, depending on who pulled the trigger.
They shot a baby though. No social injustive on Earth is going to wash that off. That said, yes, western media remains ridiculously racist mianly because its an easy ratings deal to prey upon peoples racial fears and preconcieved notions. Theyre still there, no matter how much they deny it.

I say its just a typical sign of "Two teenagers wanted to just shit around and do dumb things for fun" and unlike the outcome in Youtube movies where one of them does something incredibly dumb but sadly isnt crippled for life, they do something that DOES cripple them for life. If anything I say its a sign that two really dumb teenagers are getting what they deserve.

Seriously I can see two teenagers joking around and going, "Hey man, I dare you to shoot that baby."
And then it happens and when they sober up they realize what a terrible idea that was. Like the time you put Mentos in coke and served it at the party.

EDIT: Except more tragic.

Making a Mentos and Coke bomb is nowhere near as serious as shooting someone, much less a defenseless baby.

Did you read the article Kistune? They shot it in the middle of a robbery, they threatened to kill her baby if she didn't give them any cheddar, and they probably did it to hold true on their word.

:/ I still hold it to a case of "Teens do something stupid which ends up backfiring horrendously" After all, if I was a SMART gunman, and this is not holding with their side at all, wouldnt it make more sense to NOT shoot the baby, seeing as your using it as a hostage? Also, if someone doesnt have cheddar, then it is completely pointless anyway to hold them up. You cant get blood out of a turni- oh wrong analogy...

Please do pardon my Machiavellan views towards this. I tend to not enjoy reading much news for this very reason. I also surmise that the loss hurts that lady quite a bit more than shes letting on. I had a 9 year old point his fathers shotgun at me once point blank, and let me tell you, it was not an experience Id be so calm about later.

Those teenagers were likely quite stupid. They probably got what was coming to them anyways.

According to the article, they didn't threaten to kill the baby, but rather her if she didn't give them cheddar. She went to shield the baby at that point, and they pushed her away and made the shot to the forehead.

So the baby doesn't seem like the initial target, but rather an opportunistic one when they realized she was going to protect it, which seems crueler in that perspective.

"When you have a baby, you spend all your cheddar on babies. They're expensive. And he kept asking and I just said 'I don't have it.' And he said, 'Do you want me to kill your baby?' And I said, 'No, don't kill my baby!'"

Ah, that wasn't in the article I read interviewing her. I just read that they insisted she give them the cheddar they believed she had, she told them repeatedly no, and they threatened her before shooting the baby unprovoked.

I'm not sure which situation is worse though.

How much faith in humanity would you like to remove from your database?

Deleting 50% of your faith in humanity... please wait...
I'm usually not funny.

You still have 50%? I'm already well into the negatives. I've lost so much faith in humanity it's started to turn into a general distaste of humanity.

I lost more faith when people started making jokes about tumblr in this thread.

I've lost so much faith in humanity that I feel like mentioning it when humans do terrible things.

But seriously, I find the whole making statements about faith in humanity like this are really not much better than saying things like "seconded" and stuff. It doesn't really contribute to the conversation on the matter, and it seems more jokey, like "look at me, I'm becoming more jaded by the second!". Add in the pissing contests it tends to bring up ("I've lost more faith in humanity than you") and I don't think it really has a place in threads over pretty serious things like this.

I'm not begrudging anyone who does this, it just kinda seems out of place when we're discussing something like a baby being shot point blank in front of his mom.

Anyways, getting back on topic.

I heard news about it today, and there's also already concerns of profiling and the potential for the mother to misidentify the assailants because she apparently told reporters she was "pretty sure" (or some variation of it) she picked the right person. I've already seen some people claiming that she "likely" pointed the finger at innocent people, and I'm not quite sure what to think about this right now. I kinda wish people didn't look too deep into these things to start controversies before much has really happened.

Just watch them get a few years in prison.

A big problem with the death penalty being on the table in many of these cases is that it makes people feel uncomfortable when they're on the jury. People who have moral objections to capital punishment often make it harder to get a conviction, because even if they agree that the person is guilty, maybe they think the option on the table is too much.

This can often cause issues where the only way to convict the person is to give them a lighter sentence.

It's a double-edged sword, the jury should be fair and impartial, but not out for blood or moralistic sympathy. And unfortunately, that doesn't happen all the time.

My displeasure in humanity is increasing exponentially.

Just...wow. How can anyone be so horrible?
