yeah you can easily go at the lost bastille immediately after the pursuer, just not a lot of people do because you can go get some extra souls from heide's and the pyromancy flame from the boat and the souls games are so incredibly linear. it actually physically hurts me when people say they're not...

Both have pretty lengthy quest chains with some good loot at the end iirc.
