Re: The Pokemon thread
I can't even remember the last time I saw someone carrying a DS or 3DS around here. Maybe in the one super dense university city we have you'd get some hits occasionally but that's pretty much it. And we don't have much in the way of cons either.

Re: General Game Gabbin'
It's not really resource gathering I dislike, I just dislike that *every* RTS has to have the same general resource system. Going to drop it though mainly because I actually have put a ton of thought into this topic and could talk about it for days on end if I don't stop myself; I just don't think ...

Re: General Game Gabbin'
Dune 2000 was what I grew up on, even if the AI was terrible and the multiplayer wasn't balanced. It's really interesting to see how that game did some mechanics, compared to the harvest-resource-patches-then-advance-tech style of play every RTS copy-pastes into their design. The last RTS game I wa...

RTS as a genre is pretty much dead. There might still be a whole bunch of classics you haven't played though, like Supreme Commander, Total Annihilation, Rise of Nations, Company of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire or Homeworld. I know I have a bunch still on my list at least.

Re: The Legend of Zelda
What made the original good wasn't reusing assets. There's no need to do that to preserve the spirit of the original.

Re: The Big Ol' Minecraft Thread!
As someone getting into game design, I can tell you that this is nothing short of pointless and dumb in terms of design. Why should players be limited on how long they can play? It just seems pointless to me... Adding significant penalties to death increases tension and makes success feel more rewa...

Huh, that works pretty well actually. One of those things when you suddenly realise the similarities you go "oh right, of course".
