I've never played that far.
I started with a pyromancer, wondered why I couldn't pyromance until I got that thing but even then didn't use it because 5 uses for the dozens of enemies coming my way between fires to restock. Because WHAT IF I NEED IT LATER AND DON'T HAVE ANY CHARGES LEFT.

If I remember right, you get magic after a bit of playing. Like a rune or something. There's nothing to suggest that and I was confused too.
It's strong but you only have 5 uses until you heal up at a bonfire or something. Man I should play that again after FFXIII.
