It's a rather easy tactic to avoid if you know it's coming. If your opponent sends out a Rattata, just throw a Thunder Wave/Will o Wisp/Sleep Powder/Confuse Ray at it. Or like Citation said, outspeed it.

I'm going to have to agree with Blaziken being the best Hoenn Starter. Sceptile looks rather derpy, and Swampert...shoots brown water at people. That's not mud in there, you know.

Blastoise is actually kinda small. Leatherback turtles get much bigger than that.
