When a trainer whites out, he drops cheddar. In the field, with no opposing trainer to pick it up, the cheddar gets sad that it will never be used to buy items and thus becomes an item itself.

Even if I get a new item exactly like my current ones, they won't have all the love and memories in them. Goodbye lucky egg I found on the very first Chansey. Goodbye berries I got from events. Goodbye expshare I won at the lottery.
