Well to be fair, both previous dead space games ended on a note suggesting future games. Honestly it'd be a bit more weird had they not continued it. Resident Evil doesn't really have that excuse though.

That could also be it. The people who play horror games to the point where they're trying to analyze it for quality probably aren't the market base that the video game producers go for. They want more people who don't like horror to play them, that way when they do it's actually scary to them. :/
