Re: Artisan's Guild
If we got rid of the culture of catering to asshole customers, we'd all be a lot poorer, but we'd be a lot happier. I figure after a while assholes would send their kindest family members in to buy stuff. "They don't let me shop here anymore, the fuckers. Don't call them fuckers. They'll kick you out of the store."
Character is what you are in the dark.

Re: Artisan's Guild
Those jobs I applied for a few weeks back didn't call back after I asked about 'em, so I'm gonna give them another call to make sure before moving on. I found a job at a local daycare center for a cook; the only requirements are to be 18 (check), have experience making food for a large number of people (check), have a Food Handlers certification (not check but can be got easily and cheaply), enjoy working with children (check, s'long as they aren't total snots), and have a clean criminal history (check). Still looking around for other alternatives, but if the other places I applied to don't get back to me after my calls then I might have to scrounge up the $10 for a Food Handlers cert.

Forum =/= real life I'm disappointed in you
Also something I forgot about is that my dad offered to teach me what he knows about Crestron (A/V systems) programming, which is a lot, and take me to some training classes for the certifications as well. He said that the place he works at will hire anyone willing to learn/already have the certifications regardless of college degree, and said that I would be making about the same paycheck that he makes, so I'd be making 40k a year ($833 a week, $1666 every paycheck, or $3333 every month) which is a hellova paycheck for not being in college yet. I'd also be able to travel all over the country on the job's time and gas for the purpose of performing system installs and troubleshooting and stuff.

Re: Artisan's Guild
Just finished my first day as electronics cashier for Toys R Us. I learned quite a bit, flubbed some stuff (but not too badly), and generally got my bearings. Apparently cashiers at Toys R Us are rated on their "numbers." In other words, how many Rewards Cards, Buyer Protection Plans, and R Us Credit Cards we can get people to buy/sign up for. It's fairly easy during the holidays (who doesn't love a 15% off for the entire day during Black Friday?) but not so much afterwards.
Gonna have my work cut out for me to stay hired on after season.

Not killing people is nice.
My friends decided that if everything went into anarchy and we had no choice but to arm ourselves, I'd be in charge of explosives.
Even though in reality we'd just be trying to survive and escape the madness.

Re: Artisan's Guild
So I went into work with my dad today and put in an application; the place will hire anyone as long as they're willing to learn and take the training courses. I got the interview right there and he said that the training process for newcomers will start around this Friday and that "we'll keep in touch". I'm pretty confident about this, because of how easily they took the application and interview. I'm not sold that I have the job until I actually get it though, but since my dad's relatively well-liked around the office and the company's been losing install techs I have a pretty good feeling.
