Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
I played for about two hours today, and I actually saw that I'm improving. That feeling is so wonderful.

Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
I agree. I have been playing quite a bit this evening and I see large improvements. I got a head shot with the rifle on 3,5 km on an enemy in flight.
I even got some movement down properly as well. Controlled movement at 200 km/h is pretty neat

I'd like to see someone pull off playing this game with a controller

Ugh, is there a way to make the mouse not so crap in the menu? I have quite a lot of mouse lag

Same, would be nice to know if anyone has a fix for this. It's just a minor nuisance, but a nuisance nevertheless.Mete wrote:Ugh, is there a way to make the mouse not so crap in the menu? I have quite a lot of mouse lag
It is so satisfying to nail a light class going at the speed of light carrying a flag.
Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
Turn of v-sync and mouse smoothing. That should remove a lot of the input lag.
Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
I always look at the settings first when I'm about to play a new game and turn off all crap like that, along with mouse acceleration and such.
Why these even exist in PC games is beyond me

They e-mailed me with a request to fill out a survey. They'll probably send one to you guys sooner or later. There's a spot where you can type in positive and negative feedback, and any other comments. You could always tell them about it there.

Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
There's some new classes they announced at some time or another. Don't know when they're going to be released, though. The two I remember are the Architect, which can build turrets that are better at lockiing onto air targets, and Engineers, who can place turrets on walls and ceilings. There are other upcoming classes besides those ones, however. I just remember them because when I play class-based games, I like focusing on base defense and stuff.

Accurate representation of me going for a flag.
I've been playing ranger today, and it just feels more comfortable than the soldier somehow. The thumper is much easier to actually get hits with, and the assault rifle puts that pistol to shame.
Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
I have to agree with your assessment on those two classes, but having unlocked the Infiltrator and the Juggernaught, I don't use those classes much. These two classes have their really unique roles and work fantastic in both assault and defence in CTF. Jumper is a really neat flag snatcher as well. You build up speed so enormously fast, but it isn't that useful for other tasks. The crossbow is just simply too slow.
Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
I've been playing this for a while now. I have everything but the Jumper, Scrambler, and Raider unlocked, and... as a classic Tribes player, I must say that I have grievances with much of the game's design. It seems like every single point I can make in the game's favor comes with one against it. For example:
How am I still enjoying this game?!
- The skiing mechanics are the best that the series has ever seen, but there's an arbitrary cap on the vertical thrust provided by your jetpack. This cap is disguised by the fact that jetpack thrust is cripplingly weak, to the point where it's almost impossible to recover from falling off a simple ledge. Try jetting straight up and see if you can't tell when you stop accelerating.
- The game has Spinfusors (Disk Launchers) that function identically to those found in the original Tribes, even down to the 50% inherited velocity, but the game is dominated by fully automatic weapons which don't feel nearly as satisfying to use and extremely frustrating to fight against.
- The class system promotes variety by giving every role a unique set of tools to do the job it is intended for, but every class is limited to only two weapons and many of them are useless (All three shotguns, the Infiltrator's pistol, the Tech's repair gun). Worse still, this leaves four classes, the Infiltrator, Raider, Doombringer, and Technician, completely reliant on fully automatic weapons in the most common environment - outdoors.
How am I still enjoying this game?!
Ignorance is not the same as innocence.
Re: Tribes Ascend: GOTTA GO FAST
The reason you are enjoying it is because they focused on making the game fun rather than "realistic". And I have to say, the skiing mechanic is so daisies fun it is worth playing it just because of that mechanic.
I have to agree with everything you have said though. The heavy classes require a lot more power because of their weight, yet they receive the least amount of it. It makes them very slow and cumbersome to use in the open.
