Not Spyware if it doesn't monitor what you do, not adware if it doesn't cause ads to pop up (and no msn.com isn't an ad). The general term is malware.Spoony wrote:Spyware/adware/whatever it is the kids are calling it these days. Back some shit up, wipe your hard drive, start again.
If it happens with every site searched on Google then it's a Google redirect virus and any decent antivirus program will probably get rid of it.

Re: NEED TECH. HELP. OH GOD ITS COMING BACK
Spybot, Antivir etc. Does the same thing happen with other browsers? if not, use that one for the time being but still use the programs I suggested.

A random website isn't an advertisement, and get an antivirus program and scan?Zang wrote:i think it /is/ adware though. it'll send me to random sites everytime i try to click a linkPaco wrote:Not Spyware if it doesn't monitor what you do, not adware if it doesn't cause ads to pop up (and no msn.com isn't an ad). YOUAlex wrote:I had the same problem not too long ago. If the virus let's you open .EXE files then just download Hitman 3.5, it works like a charm and the scan is very fast too. It's free for a month but then you have to pay $20 for it.
http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro-3-3 ... 95604.html
When it's first done scanning it'll ask for a registration number but right underneath it is the button to activate the free license, it was sort of hard to spot for me at first.

Re: NEED TECH. HELP. OH GOD ITS COMING BACK
Also scanning for registry errors with CCleaner will make your computer run faster, I'd suggest doing that as well just because.Zang wrote:YOUAlex wrote:I had the same problem not too long ago. Re: Tech help general
I just reformatted this bitch and while this thread is high up I figured I'd utilize it.
What antivirus software do you guys suggest? My friend suggested AVG but so far it takes up an average of 60 to 80 percent of my CPU while idling. So that's a no go.

I'm using Avast, which seems to work well and is near the bottom of my task manager when sorting by memory usage; about halfway when sorting by CPU usage.
I don't know if your computer is a gaming rig like mine or whatever, though.
