Don't sully my name by referring to someone else sharing that name as 'm'lady'. The term's modern day usage has become polluted by fedora.

I'm not really sure why I put that in spoilers come to think of it.
That's a pretty unhealthy habit, dude. I'd probably talk to someone about this if I were you. Self harm of any kind isn't a good idea.

Sounds like I stopped at just the right time

Post by Rinoko »

Kind of embarrassing to admit, but I wore fedoras in high school just because I liked them. But I definitely wasn't a neckbeard and didn't complain about how girls won't date nice guys like me. I just liked the hat and didn't even know that the Internet hates them or anything. I stopped wearing them around my Senior year because everybody started wearing them and I started to feel like it wasn't my thing anymore.

The hat itself is fine when worn with good design sense. And as far as I remember, a few years ago, it wasn't quite as immediately associated with the neckbearded manbabies.

lm fairly certain the fedora neckbeard thing was spawned in at least in some part from heretics. I had a fedora in high school and never ran into stigmata from it until years later when I looked and cringed.

Yeah there was a period of time when wearing fedoras didn't associate you with heretics/neckbeards, but as they became more popular the stereotypes began to take shape.

The fedora-clad hipsters were better, even.

Anyway, I have a childhood fear that's still lingering. Is that normal?

I just dont get why so many geeks obsess over fedoras. Even without the current stigma of greasy neckbeards ruining them for everyone, what is the appeal? To look classy? Unless you wear a suit to go with it, you just look like a tool who's trying too hard.

They also usually had shaved/buzzcut haircuts, but most fedoras I've seen recently have been with much longer hair.

Doesn't really match the aesthetic.

Does that count if back then it was the norm to wear hats?

I got into it after watching casablanca with a girl i liked and she said she realy liked how it looked and i just stuck with it. It was years ago and i grew out of the hat size and never wore it again. No one ever seemed to talk shit about it, though i suppose its easier to do so now that its attached to a stigmata.

http://imgur.com/YQokBEA heres me after a halloween party with it. I think it was maybe 5 years ago?
