Re: The Current Events Thread
I just find it odd that the main reason that this stem-cell-grown meat project was funded is because people don't want to eat meat from slaughtered animals. I would have thought that the funding would come from organizations that wish to end world hunger.

I'm not sure if you're talking about me or just in general, but I just want to reiterate regardless.Brekkjern wrote:It would be irrational to stigmatize such science because you think it is wrong without any basis in reflection.
Why is it wrong to cultivate cells? We do it all the time with every other type of cell. Is it because these can become whatever cell you want them to become? If so, what is the ethical problem with this?
Stem cell research is illegal in the US because it is unpopular. Not for any good reason.
I don't have an issue with the steam cell research into lab-grown foods, or other such issues. I was only wondering if it would offend people due to them not understanding, alongside the existing stigmatism. Personally, I hope PETA gets their chicken, is what I'm saying.

Ethiope can theoretically produce enough meat to feed the entirety of Africa iirc.Ame no Akai wrote:The world thirst problem only still exists because of economic reasons anyway.
I mean, I don't have the numbers on hand, but do you really think the first world is producing exactly enough food to feed itself, with no excess at all?

So Pres. Obama did an AMA on Reddit
I don't really go on Reddit, but it's really cool that he answered some questions there.

And Redditors, being who they are, are jumping on grammar mistakes immediately.

Reddit is the result of forced breeding between Fark and Youtube. It's the brain dead child of them both.

It's good that this is becoming less of a political taboo.
