Uhh I think I'm a couple hours into disc 2, I don't remember. It's been a few weeks since I've played it. PS3 is new and shiny still haha. I had said that I hadn't finished it, ahha, so that's just based on RIGHT NOW. I need to start playing it again; I miss it.RikuKyuutu wrote:shazza wrote: Squall pisses me off as well because he's a booty. Laguna is awesome though; I just want to hug him sometimes, haha. Man With the Machine Gun is one of the best FF songs ever.
How far into the game are you? I'm guessing not past disc 1.
And I agree on the "Man With the Machine Gun" bit.

Ah, Things take a rapid turn after disc 1
Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
How the frick did I miss this thread? My opinions:
I: I didn't play FFI until quite some time after I got into the series, so I'm not incredibly fond of it. I probably would have hated it if I played the original NES version first, instead of a remake.
II: Strangely enough, whenever I try to play this game, I get sucked into an all-consuming desire to get all of my spells to Lv16 as soon as possible, and never actually play it. I have done this six times to date.
III: Never played.
IV: Never played.
V: Fricking love this one. First class/level game I ever played that let you change classes, so I was really excite for that. The game's light tone also sold me. Galuuuuuf. ;-;
VI: Technically never played; I have played the beginning about four times and I cannot ever get past the FREAKING octopus boss, no matter how much I grind. I did like what little I've seen of it, though. Except Terra. I can't stand Terra.
VII: This was pretty good. I'm kinda sick of it though, considering my main source of income is directly from maintaining a combat engine I built for a FF7 RP sim on Second Life.
VIII: This was my first FF, and was actually the game that made me go check out sci-fi stuff instead of straight fantasy.
IX: Tied for my favorite game in the series. I love the characters, I love the story, I love the dialogue, etcetera.
X: I rather like X, even if it does have its issues. For the most part it's well written, if a little easily predictable. I liked the sphere grid as an alternative to traditional levelling.
X-2: While the storyline is utter crap, I do like X-2's gameplay. The sheer amount of fanservice annoys me, though.
XI: I've played XI since Christmas '08. Still do. I'm loving what the new team is doing for the game (New MO: "Players like having nice things!"). I main BLU and SMN, and I used to main WHM before I realized how boring it was.
XII: Here's the other game tied for my favorite. I love the plot, the systematics are fun, the game is beautiful, and I absolutely adore the sheer amount of world fluff floating around in the Clan Primer. I loved the break from the traditional summons into the zodiac set (I actually prefer the zodiac set to the traditional ones), and the lack of a romantic subplot was an extremely welcome breath of fresh air. I was also incredibly entertained by the writers using Vaan to fake out the marketing department.
XIII: I haven't played much of XIII, due to not owning a PS3, but I've really enjoyed the combat system. Lightning makes me squee, Hope pisses me off. Hope's mom was badass.
XIV: Horrible. Absolutely horrible. It had so much promise and then failed to deliver. The only saving grace was Squeenix coming out and saying that it was crap, they were switching the dev team out, and that nobody had to pay monthly fees until it was up to snuff. I still check it out every once in awhile, but it's just so boring without friends.
Crystal Chronicles: I love this game. A FFCC veteran and I just introduced two friends to it and we've played like three times this week already. All of the other FFCC spinoffs I've played have been atrocious though.

Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
I tried to get into this series with the GBA versions.
I got bored as hell. How do you even get into this series (Honest question)
I...feel like I'm missing out something that I cant get into

It depends on what bored you. Was it the gameplay, the grinding, the plot, or the characters?CosmicSmugleaf23459 wrote:I got bored as hell. How do you even get into this series (Honest question)

ooh I forgot about this ane. I had it but I couldn't understand it D: Like at all. Did the worlds really repeat with drastically harder enemies or was I just doing it wrong when I was 13?Aranai wrote: Crystal Chronicles: I love this game. That may be so, but then again, I love J-RPGs...Le Great Handsome Oppressor wrote:By having tastes that correspond with the series.CosmicSmugleaf23459 wrote:How do you even get into this series (Honest question)
Must be the gameplay...It is either by turns (like oh-so many other RPGs) or Real-time action (like the Tales of series), not some strange bar thingie that tells me when to attack.
Altough the one I played had an interesting setting, what with the robots and stuff.

Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
I and II are turnbased. X is somewhat turnbased but not entirely as you are capable of attacking multiple times before an enemy can if you do it right.
The ATB system of the other games can be seen like a cooldown time on attacks with there being spells to decrease the time you have to wait between attacks and spells to increase it for the enemies or even let them freeze in time. It's like a mix between turnbased and real time, there were no simultaneous attacks until X-2 but the attack order isn't set by your stats and if you accelerate the bar you can attack multiple times before the enemy can.
They just do it a little different, I never had a problem with that.

Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
No, that's how it was, but there actually was an ending, you had to go through years until you got to the point where you get the letter telling you how to obtain the mystery element in the desert. Collect the mystery element then go through the mystery miasma stream. After that you'll see a town and a dungeon. The dungeon has the final boss which after yo kill, Cleanses the world of miasma.shazza wrote:ooh I forgot about this ane. I had it but I couldn't understand it D: Like at all. Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
Every area in FFCC is divided into three "cycles", which get progressively harder but give out better loot. A level goes up a cycle every time a new drop of Myrrh appears at the area, but after Third Cycle it stops getting more difficult.shazza wrote: ooh I forgot about this ane. Re: Fantasies of the Final variety
Ah I see. It annoyed me that in one area the enemies were too easy and n another far too hard and I got bored playing the same levels so I gave it to my friend >>'
Loved the character creation though c:

The series is called such because FF1 was basically going to be Square's last hurrah before they went bankrupt. The sheer popularity of the game got them back on their feet.

I've been playing XII for the past few days now and I am loving it.
I don' t care what people say about the combat system or the licenses, this game is amazing.

Alright, so I started playing Dissidea, finally, and it's much better than I expected, and the Dissidea Project is really amazing.
