Yes, there's a 14 day/10 hour trial, which means you can try the game for free for 14 days, but in those 14 days you may not exceed 10 hours of playing time. I strongly recommend you start out with Factions or Nightfall though; Prophecies might be the original, but Factions and Nightfall have far better tutorials. Prophecies just puts you in this fantasy kingdom and leaves it up to you how you're gonna learn the game then, whereas Factions begins in a monastery that turns out to be a school for learning how to defeat the Dragon Emperor's bodyguard. Nightfall makes you start out teaching a couple of recruits, but fortunately your character appears to know more about the game than you yourself. It's a funny experience.
