In fact, I'd wager to say that, outside of left-wing towns (San Francisco), you have a 10% chance of getting beaten for holding hands if you're gay. 30% chance of a lecture about how sinful you are. 2% chance of just being up and killed.
And that's just for holding hands.

There are straight parades, they're just in the regular crowds of people. It's painful to us to have to watch all these men and women be able to freely express their love when they are out together, but we can't?
Those same people would persecute us were the situation reversed. Now gay pride parades may not be the right way to go about it, but it's true that these people do need to just get used to the fact that we're here and we're not going anywhere.

Another thing is: I think if a homophobe sees 200+ gay people walking down the street, he may be less likely to try to intimidate or beat any of us. There is strength in numbers.

It doesn't matter what your orientation is, if you feel you have to brag about it to your friends (or complete strangers) you must be insecure or an attention seeker of sorts.
I thought the only people who needed to know about what went on in a relationship were the two individuals directly involved. I guess that makes me either old fashioned or means I don't give a rat's arse what people think, or both.
Also, the majority of this thread is about people bragging about their orientation to complete strangers.
