Card games...
ANYONE here read any books?????
you do know that magic the gathering has a bunch of books that follows the storyline, right?
I've read some of those. I rather enjoyed the Invasion block books. Also, the four books centered on Urza. Brother's War, Bloodlines and the two whose names I've forgoten.

well, the main difference is that the story in the magic books don't involve cards at all. The cards that are bought and sold generally are either characters from the storyline, or have some vague relevance to the storyline.
Yugioh was a show, which magic wasn't, and the cards were directly taken from the show and played a big role...even though they could have fought using ancient Egyptian lazers.
So its more like the cards are based on the storyline..
Interesting...

My understanding is that there's a loose storyline that's given through cards via flavor text and the names/abilities of more significant cards (for example, planar overlay, skyship weatherlight and legacy weapon) and through some booklet that come with decks, and then the books flesh it out more.
