It's a combination of two things.

One is that Chris is lazy and time spent showering is time not playing PS3.
Two is that his mom is a compulsive hoarder and sometimes dumps dirty laundry in the bathtub, which is really strange considering how their goddamn laundry room is on the ground level and Chris's bathroom isn't. Chris can't move it because he's afraid of pissing her off and besides that would be work.
