In extremely surprising news, Buckley is actually not a bad writer. I was fully prepared to slog through his little novella for the sake of being able to declare that it sucked, but aside from a weird premise is was okay as far as writing goes. The present tense tripped me up at first though.

Most of Buckley's criticism is that he can't draw, uses too many words and isn't funny

So if that novella is a non-humor based one there's no reason it shouldn't be decent

I rarely like everything by an author. Sometimes one thing, sometimes most things. Never all. Except maybe Gaiman. Ending to Graveyard Book aside.

Why inflict on yourself something so you can say it sucks with authority? The only thing CAD's haters have done is given him a massive boost in traffic and revenue. Don't start CAD hate threads/discussions. Don't download and edit his comics. Don't participate in his forums or give him a reason to continue his comics. If you stick the knife in your chest and then give him the handle, he's just going to twist it. Let mediocre be mediocre and save your hate for something worth it. Like child rapists and puppy eaters.

Because if you say you hate something and haven't given it a chance then you're just throwing shit to see if it sticks. Whereas people who give it that chance can give much better reasons why it sucks other than "It just does."

Which is great. But was that the original reason for the hate? The hope that he'd post something you'd like? Did you ever really hate it then?

I hate his comic for being bloated and unfunny while trying to pull drama moments that just plain didn't work. So when someone told me he'd written a light novella I figured I have fifteen minutes to kill so why not see if he was as horrible with prose as he was with comics.

In retrospect I'm just being allergic to the mention of CAD hating and taking out on you. I get worried somebody will post about it and that it'll consume the thread. I've seen it before. Eleven times.

Hating things is fun. That's all there is to it. Most people involved don't actually care if Buckley continues to crap out comics, in fact they'd be pop flyin' to have something to make fun off.
