Sweet, downloading Honest hearts now.
So what is endgame like? If I go ahead and start up the final quest are there companions, quests, and things in general that I'll be unable to do because of it?

The endgame is bodaciously the end of the game. You can't play after you're done with it. Make sure you do everything you're going to do before initiating the fight for Hoover Dam.

Wow that sucks, I won't keep whatever exp I get during the battle at all? That blows.

You should be level-capped long before you get there anyway.

Explore some more, shoot things and complete challenges. Do quests.

You mean like, play the game?
What kind of nonsense is this.
Actually I';l just get the explorer perk, that might make me wanna run around more.

Good, that will show you how much you ran past without exploring.

I was actually around level 15-20 when I first got to Hoover Dam. I really turned a blind eye to most of the quests in this game.

Oh crap, Deathclaws. Well, it wouldn't be DLC without difficult ene- wait, why is it running away. That's weird, I wonder where it's WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS AND HOW ARE THEY KILLING A DEATHCLAW.

I had absolutely no problem with
Tunnellers when I first saw them, but there's a section later in some shady cave where there's SO MANY OF THOSE FUCKERS. That place was hard as nails.

I made the mistake of doing Lonesome Road first. What that means is I had JUST gotten the raised level caps (I was around level 24, so I was pretty badass with the Mojave by then (only 6 levels to go)) and went in with that "almost level capped" mentality all guns a blazen. The marked men were easy enough to pick at with ratslayer. Then I got to the tunnelers, saw how physically small they were (comparatively speaking), and went at them with a shotgun. It went like this:
"OOH new enemy!"
*insta kill first one with lucky crit*
"Pff, this'll be a breeze"
*see second one*
"C'mere you little shi-OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK WHY ARE YOU SO FAST AND WHY ARE MY ENTRAILS ON THE CEILING!?"
Also, honest hearts is still my favorite. All around best handgun introduction. That shit is like concentrated "fuck you" for your enemies, especially since you can silence it.

Okay, the tunnelers turned out to be not much trouble.
The deathclaws, on the other hand...
