You kind of answered your own question about the core audience there. We can't voice our opinion solely through our purchases, because that will send a vague message at best since we're only a fraction. That is why we discuss videogames with each other (or whine about it, as some people say), so that we can form a unified opinion of the core audience. Developers actually do read the large messageboard to pick up on what people are saying, but we also give them direct feedback by emailing them and making petitions. Not everyone can and has to do this, but we need to have open discussions so that we and developers can see if an opinion is shared among the audience.

And the boxes look like shit, which diminishes the quality of the game. Again, this is an sich not that big of a deal, but it's kind of a symbolic argument about the direction games are going.

I said in my post why it's less fun, there is no challenge therefore no sense of accomplishment for anyone that beats the boss.

You are just making excuses and hiding beheind "B-B-But it's subjective! OPINIONSSSS" Of course games can have objectively bad aspects, as mentioned earlier SM64 controls like shit and is ugly, you cannot defend this as a style or choice by the developer, it's due to limitations at the time and by modern standards it is shit.

It's clear that you aren't thinking about this from a game design standpoint and just want to waffle on about how them mean old hardcore gamers don't know nothin

In my infinite wisdom I thought of a reason for why those platforms should be yellow.

To my knowledge there is no spin jump in NSMB, therefore the player would have to die jumping on Reznor (Not good game design to kill the player to teach them a lesson, least not in Mario), therefore it's not the same situation as the orginal so the player must be guided some other way. Probably shouldn't have taken so many pages to arrive at this conclusion, I apologise.

It could be done in a more subtle way, maybe with a little cinematic of something hitting the underside of a platform or just not huge yellow blocks. Oh, maybe yellow blocks that are dirty or something so it's not immediatley obvious. (EDIT: I GOT IT, COVERED IN ASH, BECAUSE LAVA (Shit imagine how great that would be, the player just sees like this hit of yellow and they go for it and jump at it. Poof! The ash is removed to reveal the true nature of the block, a nice little extra visual detail and it rewards the player for what they've done and lets them know it's correct.))

Visuals still suck booty

I just

don't really see why everyone is getting worked up over the boxes?

It is bodaciously exactly as difficult to figure out how to beat the Renzors as it was in Super Mario World.
Namely
so easy that you would have to be blind and/or a toddler to not figure it out.

Bosses in Mario games are ALWAYS pathetically easy. The entire challenge is the platforming to get there. That is the point.

Epic Mickey 2 looks... meh. I was hoping for a 3D adventure, not a platformer.
