Arrows work decently too if you don't have the mana for fighting him. Just dodge his attacks

Get the Purple Flame Shield and learn water veil. His fire attacks will decrease a lot. Stay away and attack with arrows or magic. It's all about being stocked up with supplies and keeping your distance.

Story seems interesting, won't spoil anything but, From Software manages to create a scary and dark story like in Demon's Souls.

Hopefully the game will have something like the Grave Robbers ring. This way the player can hide whenever a BP invades and wait it out or plan a sneak attack.

a good way to avoid it (least it worked for me) was to just disconnect from the game. like go to the playstation dashboard. or just restart the ps3. when i came back the black phantom was gone and i didnt lose anything.
no offense to ppl who like to invade but fuck that noise lol
