I think Mega Man Legends as a franchise has always had potential to be popular, especially on a Nintendo console. Whenever a good game doesn't sell well, it is because of poor marketing, plain and simple. And MML3's marketing looked like it was going to actually put forth some effort this time around. Well, at least that's what I think. Or course it's hard to predict this early in its development.
The worst part of this cancellation is that they didn't even bother with the demo--you know, the one that was meant to actually gauge interest for the game? It was probably close to being finished, it would have cost nothing to distribute, they would have gotten $2 for every copy sold, and they would then have a concrete figure to base their decisions off of. Instead, they decide that there isn't enough interest in the game based on lord knows what and don't even try to actually test the waters.
I think the problem fans have with on-disk DLC is that we're all used to everything being available from the start. Ten years ago, when a game was released, it was a complete product, and your $50 could buy you the whole thing. Then somebody (probably an MMO) had the idea of charging microtransactions for extra content they thought of after the game was released, and soon everybody realized this was a great way to make cheddar. Now we have games with extra content from the start that you have to pay extra cheddar for, because... well, there's bodaciously no reason that I can think of other than a chance to make a few extra bucks. There's nothing respectable about it, as far as I can tell.
I think we all miss the days when you had to work hard to
unlock the super secret extra characters. Maybe DLC is a compensation the drop in sales of strategy guides that came with the rise in popularity of internet strategy guides. Maybe it's just blatant cheddar-grubbing. Hell, maybe it's both. It's an issue I don't know enough about, but I thought
this video has a lot of interesting things to say about it.
Finally, why does Capcom have to rerelease all of their current fighting games? Frankly, I think it's bullshit. For a company that seems to really love making fighting games, they seem to have a lot of trouble understanding balance. If every fighting game they make has to be released again a year later to fix balance issues and put in a few new characters, they why would I want to buy the first iteration of any of their games? That is the message Capcom is sending me, and though I am not a fighting game fanatic, I'd hope that actual fanatics are getting that message as well. I'd love to see the day when Capcom releases a new fighting game and nobody buys it, because all the fans are waiting for the updated version. The video game industry is very competitive, and we should not be rewarding companies who consistently fail to make products that get it right the first time.

SSF4 wasn't released for rebalancing issues but because of the interest people put into the game. SF4 had good balance, moreso than most other Capcom fighting games (save from Super SF2 Turbo)First and foremost, SSF4 and UMvC3 are released because Capcom know they're going to make cheddar with them, because the fans want these games. The rebalancing is a bonus and a way to advertise the game better.

It's not gonna happen, because Capcom fans are really loyal to the company. So as long as Capcom doesn't just shit in a box and sells it for 60 bucks, they're gonna buy it to support the company, and also because they know it'll be a fun game. SF4 was hella fun, so is MvC3.

That's not the point, again the games are re-released because there's interest in them from the fighting game fans. The question "why wasn't that character or that mechanic in the original game" is simple to answer: they didn't have the time, or the cheddar, to do it in the original, and because the original sold well, they can use that cheddar to create new fun stuff and "reward" the customers, that will then buy the new game, and give cheddar to Capcom, that will create new games, etc etc

@ShadyDevil99 No, Seth was not punched by a fan. Also completely false.

Now, I'm not really mad at Capcom. I'm not threatening to never buy their games/ boycott them/ burn there office down/ etc. But I will say that I didn't really like any of their non Ace Attorney or Megaman games. Well there's Okami and Viewtiful Joe, but they haven't said anything about a new one of those yet, and I wouldn't put my hopes up. If Capcom really is as bad as the /v/ hate threads are saying, they're digging their own grave, I need not concern myself with it. If not, then I'll just wait until they make something worth buying AND release it in my country.

The thing with the fighting games is if they had the pros test the balance they would never HAVE to rework the game for balance and just use real DLC not disk based shit. :3c

I was saying if it was as bad as the /v/ threads >implied, then they would die out. IF. Not it IS as bad as what they're >implying. I mentioned /v/ in the first place because that's where I first found out about the whole Capcom's Patented Fan Bitchslap Turbo Edition situation.
