The Big Ol' Minecraft Thread!
For those of you out there trying to make a server, here's a post from Notch's blog:
Minecraft Alpha Server 0.1.0
I’ve added a new section to the download page, which includes some instructions on how to get it started.
As I’ve said before, almost everything except for the bare minimum is missing from this release, but I thought it was important to get something out before I leave for Berlin tomorrow.
To connect to a server, you need to know the IP to the server, and the server needs to accept incoming connections in the port. To find out your own external ip, you can use http://www.whatismyip.org/. If you configure the server to run on anything other than the default port, just add “:<port>” to the IP string.
For example, if your IP number is 10.0.0.1, and the port is 5000, the connect string would be “10.0.0.1:5000”.
If people can’t connect to your server, you might need to configure your router or firewall to accept incoming connections in the port (default 25565). How to do this varies per firewall and router, so check your manual.
You can copy and paste into the IP field in the client, by the way

Got it working LAN wise, too bad blocks regenerate instantly so it's impossible to mine and destroy trees.bunnytots wrote:Testing out various connection issues today, my SMP may go live today depending on if people can connect with the changes or not.
173.26.17.64:25655 is the ip that is being tested.

In the spawn area, everything instantly regenerates

Good to know, but anyway the server is either:
173.26.17.64:25565
192.168.1.100:25565
192.168.1.100:25565 is working LAN wise.
Oops, posted wrong port.

guys can somebody help me with this?

Yeah, minecraft used to work and now... this. If nobody can fix this problem, then that's not so bad as like my next problem with it is on my own laptop, I try to play it and... nothing? Like, I get the instructions up and so on, yet I don't get a box - not even a black box or a problem box, just the instructions of how to play the game? This is the free version btw, for my birthday when it's most likely nearly completed I think I'll get the game.
