Shadow Link was the final boss in Zelda II, though, as a test for Link. And he's been portrayed as a villain in other spinoffs, like the mangas. I really would like to see a shadow Link being the big bad of a game eventually, that would be pretty cool.

I also want to see Vaati come back in a 3d game. Vaati was so cool!!

Shadow Link may be a pawn/minion type, but who says they can't just have a new version of Shadow Link be created who has more sentience than the previous "derp I attack you now. Now you attack me. herp" ones.

There's always ways to increase something's quality. You just have to try.

I loved how Shadow Link was portrayed in the Four Swords manga. He was a more sympathetic villain. He got way more characterization than he ever got in the real games.

Shadow Link could theoretically be a really great nemesis if given some character development. I like the idea of playing as two Links in slightly different versions of reality and them coming together to do battle when one succumbs to Ganon's darkness while the other remains true to his heroism to stop Ganon. It'd be fun playing as both the hero and the future endgame villain.

I was actually a member of a development team for a Zelda fangame that featured a co-op system between Link and Shadow. Shadow wanted to work with Link to get revenge on Ganondorf, so they switched places on the overworld and each had unique abilities to move around. Shadow got some serious development during the course of the game.

Sadly, the game fell through because people stopped contributing, but it was cool while it lasted.

I really hope the next 3D game isn't a motion controlled game. As much as I like SS, I would like it a lot more if it were controller based

Crawfish wrote:lol people complaining that Zant "lost his credibility" when he went psycho at the end of the game.

Because, you know, he was such a deep and interesting character before he had a break-down. He had about as much personality as, uh...well, Bellum or Malladus. In fact, Zant's characterization was one of the better things about Twilight Princess.
You see, here's the thing...

Throughout Twilight Princess, you know Zant is bad news. Why? Because he is TERRIFYING. That horrible sound plays whenever he makes his entrance, he curses Link, almost kills Midna, forces Zelda into hiding, and turns the entire population of Hyrule into ghosts. And need I mention his creepiest moment? "I need you." Brr...
But then, you meet him and he tells you his backstory. Honestly, it is an excellent backstory; one of the better ones in the series. He worked for the Royal Family in the Twilight Realm for years, and feels under-appreciated. When I said he lost his credibility, I wasn't completely truthful. What I meant was that he lost his intimidation factor. How much you wanna bet that he was the royal family's court jester?

Bellum is crap. Complete and utter crap. It's one of the many reasons why I don't like Phantom Hourglass that much. When I first heard about him, I was looking forward to seeing him. He sounded really creepy, especially because he was able to take down a god. And then...ugh. Needless to say, he was a disappointment. It has zero personality, it's not intimidating, it's just...stupid. It's just a giant jellyfish that constantly changes size and, what else, kidnaps Zelda. His motivations and origins are never made clear, his battle isn't all that fun, aside from freezing time, and there is nothing given to hint at what it is actually like. He has no lines, and has no body language to hint at a personality! And don't say it's just because he's an eye with tentacles, you can show emotion with an eye with tentacles. Hell, you can show emotion with just an eye! Wheatley showed a ton of emotion in portal with his expressions, and hell, I made a comic in 5th grade about a character with no facial features but one giant eye, and he showed a ton of emotion, too! Bellum is just a terrible, terrible villain.

Cole is a bit better than Bellum, but not by much. The only thing he has going for him is that he actually has a personality, and the first shot we get of his teeth is pretty creepy. Aside from that, he's another disappointment. While he's not bland like Bellum, he is even less intimidating, and he is so annoying! Not to mention, while he does show up more than Malladus, he's not even the head villain. Laaaaaaaaaame.

And finally, there's Malladus. Though still horribly bland, he's better than Bellum because he actually does have some lines, he's actually intimidating, and we have a better explanation of his motives: he's a demon king. We also actually know his goal: destroy the world. Yes, he's cliched, but it's more than Bellum. Plus, he's actually the real villain of Spirit Tracks, he kills Cole(thank god), and his boss theme is my favorite in the series. Yeah, I'm a sucker for good music. Another reason why I didn't like Phantom Hourglass.

I need a fully orchestrated version of this song.

Of those four, Zant is the best, but he's still got a lot flaws.

And I'm gonna come out and say it...I actually enjoy Spirit Tracks more than Twilight Princess.

I like to think that a lot of Zelda fans would like ST more than TP.

I really think that ST gets a lot of crap it doesn't deserve, most of all that there are a ton of people that haven't even played the game and will bitch about "The stupid train" and the "horrible flute".

Yet the same people will defend TP's flaws to the death, even if what they say is hypocritical. "It doesn't matter that Hyrule feels empty, it's still the biggest version of Hyrule, and it's really great to ride Epona through the fields. It's much better than ST's stupid train mechanic. There's only interesting things in a few parts of the map, and you have to travel to them. That's boring."

I like both games, but TP was the first Zelda game where I felt bored at times between the dungeons. This year I was tempted to replay it, since my brother finally picked it back up to finish it before SS came out, but the intro is really off-putting.

It really just grates me the wrong way, to the point where while I enjoy the overall game, the individual parts are going to keep me from willingly going back and playing it again, something no other Zelda game (sans Zelda II) has ever done.

I agree with Kamak's sentiments. I played through Twilight Princess and was really bored when I wasn't in-dungeon. After I finished it I haven't bothered with it since. I know what the story of the game is and how everything occurs, honestly it's not one of those Zelda games I feel I would want to pick up again a few months later and say "Hey let's play this again." like Ocarina Of Time, Majora's Mask and a few others have made me do.
