I think I'll put getting attack speed marks back after that, I need more variety for my glyphs. Sure, CDR and MR per level are the most common and useful, but for my special needs it's just not enough. Maybe I'll take AP per level or M. Pen. or something; I think I'll buy it based on what I'm playing most once that rolls around (and then I'll just invest in even more AD runes for my Rengar oops)

I've never really seen a reason to get clarity on sona, you just need to learn mana management, if you took exhaust you can get an easy kill with someone aggressive like miss fortune or ezreal.

Double exhaust bot lane for days.

Some of the "useless" combinations I like doing are Nunu with Exhaust and Soraka with Heal

Nunu with exhust is good against an AD with cleanse.

I used to be pretty great with him in SR, but eventually I just... I got really bad. The constant nerfs didn't help.

If I might give a tip though? I'm blasting the shit out of everything with him in Dominion, you could play this to train him there. I did this with a lot of champs, it helped my performance a great deal.

But basically, with Alistar, just get tanky. And fast. Trinity Force ain't a too bad item for him, but personally I rather have a Force of Nature and go the full tanky route. Sunfire capes and Aegis too, don't forget. There was a time where I started with your regular Philosopher's stone, but in all honesty after taking it off my build again and start with shoes + Aegis, I performed a whole lot better. Since he's really mana and CD hungry, I like to build an Athene's on him (also gives you some damage boost and resistance).
Another tip, use your R before team fights start, or as soon as possible, and not as a 'oh shit' button as last.

Flash + Ignite are good spells on him, especially Flash. Cleanse if you feel like pissing off enemies (and on top of that, Quicksilver Sash if you feel like trolling hard).
