You can either have a large AP advantage early-game, or you can have that same advantage at level 6, and almost three times as much end-game. The same goes for mana regen yellows, and several others. There's no point to using flat runes if you aren't prepared to take advantage of them while they're actually superior to their scaling equivalents, and there are a lot of champions who might as well not bother because they need their ultimates to threaten people and their first five levels are mostly spent passively.
Yeah and some of my favorite tops are like that. Cho'gath, Jax, Shyvana, and Shen are my main tops, and I also jungle with Shyvana and am starting to dabble in Jax jungle.
Anyway, I've been getting wrecked top my last handful of matches. I keep playing against tanks that have twice as much health and twice as much damage as me. Volibear, Mundo, and Irelia.
And last night I was cho'gath against lee sin, and he took down all the turrets in my lane because I couldn't dish out enough damage to stop him. He just sat there under the tower attacking it while I attacked and feasted and ruptured and feral screamed him, and only ran when he ran out of minions.
What do I do when my opponent can effectively completely ignore me, even though I'm building straight up damage?
