So, I'm sitting on enough IP for Katarina. Should I unlock her? I do have a lot of fun with her.

I don't really know why people ask if they should unlock a particular champ, especially when they say they have a lot of fun playing them.

NO YOU SHOULDN'T BECAUSE YOU ENJOY THEM ONLY BUY CHAMPIONS WHICH ARE TOP TIER EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM OR YOU'RE SHIT AT THEM


Seriously if you have fun playing something and you want to play the champion more, just get them.

I can say this much: Katarina is extremely easy to counter. Name every champion you know with a non-targeted gap closer (Flash counts) or form of hard CC, they're all counters to her. Riot refuses to do something about it for reasons I can't imagine, but she effectively only has three abilities, none of them except her ultimate are really dangerous, and her ultimate is a short-range channeled AoE. It's like if you could stop Kennen or Fiddlesticks from killing your whole team by just whacking them once. Would you really be afraid of either of them if you could?

Is she fun? That's a matter of opinion, but when you get shut down, you're not really playing that champion any more, you're just sitting there useless or waiting to respawn. Given how often and how easily Kat is forced to deal with that, I'd say she's bodaciously not playable against a lot of common enemy teams.

I don't really believe in useless or rarely useful characters. Sure there are some champs which are hard to counter or easy to counter, but imo in the end everything boils down to skill and mindset. Shaco is a strong champ, often banned because of it - but only because he's good doesn't mean every player is automatically good with him. Heck, he's usually even easy to counter for me by now in general whatever I play. Shen was stupid to me, and he's still stupid to me despite the buff. I can't help but think that Malphite is even more useless than Nunu, altough I've seen both plenty of times in action (and Nunu is probably the biggest shit). Some champs really shouldn't be too hard to play, like Master Yi or Sona, but for the life of me I can't do shit with them. Some champs are considered hard to play, which I've picked up easily in a couple seconds.

What I'm trying to say is that theory is good and nice and all, but in reality often things just look entirely different. I'm admitting though that on professional levels things look more like theory again; but lets be honest I think there are more people playing LoL because it's fun and not because they want to do it on a professional level.

Atleast that's my opinion on this, altough I have to say that I don't know if I'm allowed to say something or if I should keep my trap shut because I'm only a scrub etc. etc.

You also have to take into account your mindset. What do you like doing in a game? Your thought process on what to do in a given situation may cause you to gravitate to certain champs. While tatzel may find no point for malphite, I believe he is an awesome tank with top notch initiation and anti-carry protection. It's all relative, man.

It's only a dollar, I don't give a shit, and I saw it in game. I kinda like it.

Tatzel, this isn't about which champions are easy, difficult, or rewarding. You could be the best Katarina player in the world, but her core design would still put your capacity for success in your opponent's hands. You have no solution to being stunned, silenced, knocked into the air, or suppressed, because even if you take Cleanse and buy a Quicksilver Sash and Mercury Treads so that you'll never lose control of your champion for more than a fraction of a second, that fraction is still unavoidable and it'll put your ultimate on cooldown before it deals any significant damage. Then you're left with a bouncing dagger that has poor single target damage and a blink with a huge cooldown that you can't use to deal damage unless you know you'll survive being within melee range of the enemy you just used it on with no escape skill to save you.

On a mostly unrelated note, Shaco is always banned. Always. His jungling is nearly impossible to counter and he can gank lanes that are warded by jumping over jungle walls. You'll never see it coming because he's invisible, and he gets a built-in slow that only compounds the inevitable red buff slow you'll also be suffering from. Unlike the only other jungler that can gank warded lanes as effectively (Nocturne), he can do this once every 10 seconds if he so chooses. If this isn't what you're dealing with when you play against him, you're not countering the real Shaco. Even if you are, you should still ban him because you can't trust your teammates to know how to deal with him nearly as well as you can, and it's simply not fun for anyone to be playing in a game against him. No single champion in the game currently deserves bans more than he does.
