borderlands multiplayer just isnt fun
it turns into a race to see who can get the best loot first
then people take items they already have just to troll
moving areas without saying so
the entire thing is just stupid

I'm totally tripping out, cause I'm having a ton of fun with a videogame for the first time in a while. A 10/10 level of fun. I picked up Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and it is actually difficult to the point where it is fun. Not so hard that you feel like you are winning by luck, but not so easy that you just stomp everything.
Like, holy crap, I actually had to WORK OUT the boss mechanics for the boss fight against Death. I haven't seen a videogame that I actually had to work out all the boss mechanics (outside of an MMO) in ages.
1st Attempt: Grrr, why does he have so much HP
2nd Attempt: Oh he changes color every so often and takes more damage. That must be when he's weak to damage.
3rd Attempt: Wait, how the hell do I trigger him turning weak to damage? It didn't happen this time. Am I just supposed to wait until he changes?
4th Attempt: Okay, well there's lots of damageable stuff in the room. Destroy the chains and his scythe goes away, awesome. Still doesn't make him weak to damage.
5th Attempt: Hey wait a second, what if he's weak to magic at first, and becomes weak to melee when he changes color? *tests* Haha, fuck yeah.
6th Attempt: I really gotta destroy those chains fast, his scythe is brutal if I let it fly around the room. Prioritize chains over Death.
7th Attempt: Hmmm, he's Death. I know that the Ice Spikes are my favorite spell, but I wonder if he's weak to light attacks? Haha fuck yeah 200 damage light magic strikes.
8th Attempt: Oh lord, now he's spending more time in "melee-weak mode" than in "magic-weak mode" because I kick him out of it so fast with light magic.
9th Attempt: Bob weave duck, know all the attacks, enter a zen like state, oh god it's getting pretty close...
HOLY FUCK YEAH HE JUST DIED
I actually lept out of bed and started fist-pumping cause it was so awesome.
That's what I fucking love about difficult video games. The intense satisfaction of slowly pushing farther forward each time you die, until you finally do it. That was almost a perfect difficulty balance for a single-player game. Just enough to progress each attempt without having to resort to a guide or feeling like luck was the main reason you won.

I'm not soulless. I have plenty of souls. They're just not mine.
