Syobon wrote:Question: why do professional video game critics keep giving MW3 perfect or near-perfect scores?
Because they have already gotten paid to give a good review.

Bah. I could care less about MW3.

Is it really inconceivable that MW3 could be a good game?

I played the last few a couple times with some bros

They were really good gameplay wise, and the stories were pretty fuckin badass.

I'm not really a big fan of FPS games but I still think those are really well made games, and fun games to play with friends.

That's not what I'm saying. Near-perfect/perfect scores should be reserved for near-perfect/perfect games. It's unfortunately already a trend to throw ludicrous scores around like crazy, I'm just kind of wandering what goes through those critics' minds.

Can you tell me what a near-perfect/ perfect game is?
Like, describe it.

Personally, I'd say a perfect/near-perfect game would be a game that is going to still be fondly remembered even in 20+ years and still played if possible.

A perfect game would be one that couldn't be improved improved in any signifcant way. I don't know if a game like that has been made yet. Also I think a game that wants to earn the highest scores should be innovative, instead of rehashing the same idea every time.

But you can't know if a game is like that on the day or release.

What does MW3 rehash? Do the points on which it can be improved make it a bad game? Haven't games that are far from perfect, yet still good, received really high scores in the past?

From the few videos I've seen the Multiplayer is exactly the same as the last game but they made the kill-streaks easier to use. Don't fix what isn't broken and sells millions I guess!

Except it isn't. The guns were revised, the killstreaks are widely different and the perks aren't the same, plus the netcode has changed and the damage output has been changed for both guns and explosives. That, plus different maps and game modes.

You do know when it's definitely not going to be the case though. Look, I'm sure MW3 will be a very fun and entertaining game, but can you honestly say that in 20 years anyone is even going to remember the difference between 2 and 3?

It rehashes the same old realistic FPS shooter we've seen over a dozen times now. That doesn't make it a bad game. At no point have I said that MW3 is a bad game. It isn't innovative though, it will not change the gaming industry in any way. They've tweaked and changed the balance of the previous game and added in some new cool stuff, but that's it. It's enough to keep the game fresh and entertaining, and enough to warrant a purchase from fans of the series, but a truly great game is one that can be recommended to anyone remotely interested in the genre.

I don't see how being part of a game genre is bad.
