Haha, wow. I enjoy George Orwell's books, though. Started off with Animal Farm, another excellent novel.
And Mirror's Edge (Ody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) is about a city where a totalitarian government rules with an iron fist. In an effort to eliminate crime, they scrutinize every piece of electronic communication. While this succeeds, the city has essentially turned into a lifeless husk. The character you play, Faith, is a "runner" who delivers messages.

I like the concept it addresses, because it's happening in present-day society with things like the Patriot Act being signed into law. I don't like the execution, because I couldn't really relate to the main character at all and found it difficult to understand his motives on some of the things he did, like why he hated Big Brother to begin with.Torizo wrote:Wait, do you hate the book or just hate the concept the book addresses?
Mirror's Edge is 1984 in video game form with a shittier plot, but it presents it much better. Basically, the city has sacrificed liberty for security, meaning information is heavily monitored. That's where the Runners come in. You, as Faith, are part of a courier organization that delivers information to clients via free-running and parkour acrobatics.
Sticking it to the man all the same, just in a much more badass way. In 1984, they defy authority by having casual sex with each other. In Mirror's Edge, they defy authority by jumping from building to building and drop-kicking any cops in your way.

I did enjoy some parts of the book, but the parts I didn't like far outnumbered those that did. Since you've clearly established yourself as an Orwell fan and have a liking to 1984-like scenarios, I feel the need to point out that Mirror's Edge is only $4.95 on Direct2Drive, right now. Give it a go, if you haven't already.Torizo wrote:I can level with you there, he wasn't very easy to relate to at some points. Although I think the part that really got to me was the very end.
