Enjoy your loading times for CT. They're terrible.
When does that game need to load? Is it for the cutscenes, or are there long loading times each time you move into a different area?
Like each battle.

Uuh lemme think

Alundra (greatest Zelda clone)
Breath of Fire 3 and 4 (classic Capcom RPG with dragons everywhere)
Grandia (RPG)
Klonoa (Platformer)
Heart of Darkness (Platformer made by the 'Another World' guy)
Ape Escape (Action/ platformer, you chase apes around)
Tail Concerto (Action/ platformer)
Medievil (even more Action/ platformer)
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus (some of the greatest platformers out there)
Mega Man X4/X5/X6 (it's Mega Man, duh)
Valkyrie Profile (if you have to limit yourself to one game, PICK THIS ONE. Greatest RPG? I think so)
Final Fantasy 7/8/9 (it's FF in 3D, duh) and FF Tactics (Tactical RPG)
Tactics Ogre (Tactical RPG, natch)
Suikoden 1 and 2 (more RPG)
Xenogears (how many RPGs are there on the PlayStation?)
Vagrant Story (a lot, lemme tell ya)
Persona 1 and 2 (more RPGs, but these are quite unique)
Parasite Eve 1 and 2 (RPG/ action RPG/ survival, really great)
Einhänder (scrolling shmup)
Fear Effect 1 and 2 (action games)
Metal Gear Solid (like, duh)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (pretty much everyone's favourite Castlevania)
Silent Hill (survival horror + mindfuck)
Resident Evil 1/2/3 (survival horror)

I'll save that list on a text document and look into the games, thanks a bunch.

Though I have another question, I've never played a Final Fantasy game before and I'm wondering where to start. Would this be a good introduction?

Wouldn't it be good to NOT get Xenogears unless he's prepared to play all of Xenosaga? Or are they unrelated?
Stuff goes here later.

Quite a few of those games cost a good amount of cheddar now and would be a pain to get.

Also where is Tomba.

Is that the one with FFV and FFVI for PlayStation? I'd say no. The English translation for this version of FFV is the most vile piece of shit I've ever laid my eyes upon. If I recall correctly though, the scrips for FFVI is alright.
However, while it's vastly different from its predecessors, it won't hurt you to begin with FFVII. It's a good game. Also the games' plots aren't related with each others.

From what I've read, Xenogears and Xenosaga are meant to be similar but aren't in the same timeline/ universe. Basically devs said that Xenosaga is taking the basic ideas of Xenogears and reimagining a different game based on that.

That's true, but they are great games nonetheless and if you wanna play them you gotta get ready to spend yer cheddar on them
And yeah Tomba is pretty fun too

Also, pick up Spyro. 1 at least, but if you like it 2 isn't bad.

Farting solves puzzles.
It is the best game.

I bought all three Spyro games on the PSN.
I am pop flyin'.

Yeah, I checked and Valkyrie Profile is $54 at the cheapest on Amazon. It looks like there's a PSP port, though. Should I check that out?

Sounds good. Any other PSP games to recommend? I bought one back in 2006 but I've hardly gotten any use out of it, mostly because I usually forgot I had it and partially because I never really paid attention to any new games being released.

i don't really know much about need-to-play PS1 games but grandia and megaman legends are definitely worth looking up. though if you've got a PS3 i'd just get grandia there since, well, it's a good deal cheaper.

unrelated but i don't think I can give sega enough cheddar

I don't always agree with /v/ but this list is actually hella good
It's kind of outdated though, and don't pick games in a genre you don't like (duh) (definitely get Yggdra Union though)

And imp holy shit that medley
