Yes. The junction system is interesting. The characters are great. The plot is interesting, but what most people don't like is that it's character-centric instead of being event-centric (the most important thing is how the characters react to and deal with what happens to them). The soundtrack is legendary. The graphics are quite nice. The cutscenes are downright awesome most of the time.
This is of course biased since I like the game.

I didn't mind Albert too much, but I was just SOOO rustled when Lavitz died. That was my Aeris. Albert wasn't too bad, but Lavitz was just way cooler and HE HAD A MAMA AT HOME!
Also, too La Great Handsome Oppressor.
Well I kind of make it my buisness to try anything that causes such diverging opinions. That's why I got into MGS and Killer7 in the first place. I think I'll borrow VIII from a friend. Thanks for the info.

No problem mate

Make sure to post your opinion once you've played it for a bit.

Will do. If it makes any difference, Leon was my favorite FF character in the KH games. Is he at all similar in VIII?

His name is Squall hsssss
As far as I can remember, I didn't really like Leon in KH. But that was quite a long time ago. Anyway Leon seems like a more sullen, less well-written character than Squall. Their character developments are similar but in fact very different (both are about opening up but not in the same way and for the same reasons).

Well I knew his name was Squall in VIII, but in KH he goes by Leon so I figured, ya know, continuity and all that. I hope I can find enough time to play this game once No More Heroes 2 comes out. That game's gonna absorb alot of my free time, I can tell.

FF8 is just amazing. It is definitely visually better then FF7. The story is well done and like they said it is focused more on the character's journey and growth and not a outside event(s). The junction system is amazing. Also the awesomeness of just using GFs again and again and dominating. Or if you are cool like me you don't use GFs.
Because you missed them all the first time you played...

I got all the way to the end of the game with only Thunderbird, Icequeen, Firebeast, and Diablo. The I died on the first boss of the castle. So I restarted and realized that you can draw the GFs from bosses. Now I have that whole game memorized from start to end.
THOSE ARE MY NAMES FOR THEM SHUT UP!!
