Good guys? Controlling the media? I don't remember this from the game.

"Team Galactic! We want your Pokemon!"

Yeah Team Rocket used a legitimate casino business to fund their HOSTILE TAKEOVER IN THE NEXT TOWN OVER. Pretty boss. Their leader is a gym leader. A legitimate gym leader, recognized by the Pokemon League! How did that even happen? Who'd he have to pay off?

They sort of started to suck in the second game, but for good reason. They had no one to lead them, and were directionless. Hence, trying to steal Slowpokes. My favorite was the one retarded Rocket guy in Cerulean City who spoke broken English that you had to chase around. They conducted another genetic experiment, but instead of creating something on par with Mewtwo, they created a red Gyarados (and all shiny Pokemon in general, I guess?).

They're not always the most badass, but at least they're a realistic mafia/terrorist group.

Which is why I kind of want them back. At least they had a goal that was within human reach. For team Magma, Aqua, and Glalactic they are trying to mess with the planet. At least team rocket didn't have to go after legendary pokemon to get what they want and lose them to kids all the time. Team rocket only needed cheddar to do what they wanted. Yeah they also got beaten by a kid but that is only because of the story. If they were real and some kids went in there building to mess with them they would have lokced him up somewhere and NOT BATLLE HIM. Where they messed up was where they battle, lose, and then let him or her run freely through there base.

gonna have to stop you there on the grounds that pretty much destroying the earth with... whatever it was aqua and magma were trying to do, and creating a new universe are totally within human reach in the pokemon world.

Don't forget Galactic ran an entire city, legitimately!

Also, they nearly created an entire universe and all that. That sorta counts for something too!

T'is true. Its a bit hard to notice, but yes, the general public don't consider them to be bad guys at all. Sketchy, but not bad.

But Magma and Aqua DID mess up the planet, to a small extent! And the only thing stopping Galactic from completely reforming the universe was that Girantina got away!

Going up against a full team of Pokemon by yourself, unarmed? That's practically suicide!

They... never did any of that. Your memory is horribly defunct.

Of course, the most realistic of all the mafia's was the Gamecube games' Cipher. Headed by the mayor of a large town, but who operates through another person to avoid suspicion. He then commands four admins who, unlike the other games, actually stay in their assigned regions. And their general goal is nothing more than to steal Pokemon from trainers using the Snag Machine and turn them into more powerful, corrupted evil forms.
Oh yeah, and they don't steal the Pokemon themselves. They work through another villainous team for that. Give them the tech, get a share of the Pokemon, all while being able to avoid serious prosecution.

Plus, they had the most extravagant headquarters of all!

You'd think they might figure out they could make cheddar from selling those...

...and maybe selling Master Balls.

I should be a criminal mastermind.

As Square should have taught you, exclusives never stand in the way of your evil corporation from it's cheddar.

That, and gym exclusive!

You haven't seriously forgotten Sabrina's teleporter maze, have you?

And Fantina has them too

It's indicated directly in the anime, and hinted at in the games. I'm willing to buy it.

Every time I read about this I facepalm myself for evolving my shiny magikarp into a Gyarados.

The shiny magikarp looked better, too.

What gets me is that some shiny Pokemon don't even look that different from their regular counterparts.

Some of the alternate colours are barely noticeable (Blaziken), while others are blindingly obvious (Charizard).

You might have a point there!

Heck, its even hard to tell which one of those two is shiny, let alone telling them apart!

I remember I used to play the nintendo64 pokemon stadium game.

You know the one where you make a team of 3 pokemon then fight gym people one by one...

They should do that but with better graphics and using the new pokemon.

Or a game not on a gameboy and that you ARE the pokemon. RPG style.
