I thought it was Cris, or Kris, or something without an H in it. Or maybe that was only in the manga? Anyway, I'm pretty sure the girl in Crystal was called a variation of Chris, but without the H. And I didn't like her outfit, so I went with Gold, who also had a 'meh' outfit, but it was still better than Chris-with-no-H.

In Gen. III, I picked Brendan because of his hat. That white stuff is hat, not hair. And I picked Red when FR/LG came along, because I didn't like Leaf's hat.

My decision is purely based on hats. Lucas has a cool hat (and a blue coat in Platinum), therefore I picked Lucas.

Yes, I called Lucas' hat cool. Not 'cool' on its own, but when next to Dawn, it was pretty cool.

I picked Gold/Ethan in SS because I just really didn't like Lyra's outfit. At all. Plus her hat looked like it was eating her head.

where is the best place to train in HG with pokemon up in the 50's

Try training in the grass outside the Mt. Silver Pokemon Center or in the Unknown Dungeon.
Or trainer rematch calls.
Or Victory Road.
The place with the highest-leveled wild Pokemon that you can get to.

Either Pokemon League, Mount Silver, or gym leader rematches.

I'm raising a Quagsire and I'm actually keeping track of the EVs I am earning wow. Right now I have its Attack trained, I'm moving on to Defense next and I guess I'll put whatever's left into Sp. Defense.

Quagsire was in my party through as I played through the game. They're so awesome.

I did a lot of EV training on Plat., but none until after I finished the storyline.

For SS, no EV training was done until I finished the storyline and got a few Pokemon to level 100. I think I've only EV trained a Slowking on SS so far... If I EV trained anything else, it must have had awful results, otherwise I would have remembered.

That'd explain why I had no idea.

I didn't check Serebii yet today.

But 3 on 3? Why would anyone want that?

I've heard people complain its hard to plan for double battles, but triple battles? There'd better be some daisies good new moves.
