Galaxy Man wrote:A lot of custom moves are NOT balanced. The first to come to mind is Sonic's headbutt up B, which makes him do damage when he springs up, at the cost of the spring not staying on the ground. The spring still can fall on people and do damage, but it won't stay on the ground. That's hardly a downside.
That's one example, and I'll agree that it's not quite balanced, but his up b isn't even good for doing damage with it on.
Stages with non-random stage hazards would be basically none of them. If there's a stage hazard, it appears pretty randomly. Reset Bomb would probably be the only one where the stage hazard is more that the stage can break apart, but it's also really really shit for basically every character.
Paper Mario, Mute City, Rainbow Ride.

The issue with stage hazards isn't even that they're balanced. The issue is it's a match between two or more people in a competitive environment. If it's a match between two or more people all fighting the stage too, it gets to be way to chaotic and all skill basically goes out the window to be replaced with who can not get hit by this the longest.
Not really? When nonrandom hazards are in play it just forces adaptation for when it's coming up.

I just want to have fun

I'm starting to think a double tournament is a good idea at this point

I think there are not enough people who would be in the tournament to justify having 2 divisions, and I personally don't mind whatever format is used (please don't turn this into a casual versus competitive thread). I just want to have a clear idea of how we'd be doing this so I can hurry up and get to losing.

I'd imagine most people would be up for two tourneys.

We could probably do a compromise setup.

No equipment, no Mii fighters, no items
All stages, custom moves
2 or 3 stock
Is anyone interested in the tournament vehemently opposed to these rules?

That I can do, I suppose.

We could arrange friend code exchange and ideal match time via PMs and announce the winners in the thread (going by the honor system here).

I'm down for those rules. Shame I can't mess with Mii Fighters, but it'd take too long for me to explore the different move options anyway so I probably wouldn't even use them.

Alright, since it's nothing but affirmatives so far, I've set up a Challonge:
http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/0SiAKde6j6
You'll need an account. For now it's set to round robin, though I can make it a single elimination if people prefer. Finer details can be worked out later.

I play as Sonic and Mega Man and neither fit my description

And that's why I love that image
