Just pretend I'm the scout and this is basically the speech I'm going to give after humiliating you all in this tournament by not really putting up a fight.
We need someone to step up for tournament organizer. I'd do it but haven't done anything like this before and am not a recognized forum VIP and/or antagonist yet.

I wish Smash had organizable online tournaments like the latest Mario Kart games
Much easier than inputting everyone's friend codes
Friendly reminder that friend lists cap at 100 btw

I'd certainly be up for playing against people I've actually heard of, even though I suck at this game. Mind you, that's partly due to a bit of a handicap...
...but mostly due to me just sucking.

What
Anyway, I can come up with a prototype list of rules to be discussed and edited, but it hinges one thing: will items be on?

I was thinking of both a For Fun bracket and a For Glory bracket, both winners then fight for ultimate victory?

Too much division that way.

Personally I think items should be off.

If we're going to do this, all random or unpredictable events should be off.
Meaning no items, and no custom characters.
Miis especially, all it takes is a very very thin and tall Mii with a bunch of good strength boosts and they're suddenly doing 45 damage every uncharged smash attack and running faster than Sonic. Mii Swordsmen especially are absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Any stages that involve stage hazards should be out entirely. Anything with a walk-off too simply because they tend to be unfair to whoever is off-screen.
This basically leaves us with Battlefield, all forms of FD, Arena Ferox, Yoshi's Island, Jungle Japes, and maybe Tomodachi Life of which I can't remember if there are stage hazards or not.
There'd also need to be a way to watch the match and make sure rules are set. Which could probably be done by the judge hosting the match, with the contestants joining that, and then the judge SDing until they're out, then just watching the match.

No reason to ban custom moves or stages with nonrandom stage hazards, man. Custom moves are all completely balanced, and as long as they're not random so are stage hazards. Also I doubt we need a judge, I don't think anyone would cheat.

This is more a problem with equipment than with Mii Fighters, most of the moves are taken directly from other characters.

A lot of custom moves are NOT balanced. The first to come to mind is Sonic's headbutt up B, which makes him do damage when he springs up, at the cost of the spring not staying on the ground. The spring still can fall on people and do damage, but it won't stay on the ground. That's hardly a downside.
Stages with non-random stage hazards would be basically none of them. If there's a stage hazard, it appears pretty randomly. Reset Bomb would probably be the only one where the stage hazard is more that the stage can break apart, but it's also really really shit for basically every character.
The issue with stage hazards isn't even that they're balanced. The issue is it's a match between two or more people in a competitive environment. If it's a match between two or more people all fighting the stage too, it gets to be way to chaotic and all skill basically goes out the window to be replaced with who can not get hit by this the longest.
This is more a problem with equipment than with Mii Fighters, most of the moves are taken directly from other characters.
That doesn't solve the issue of them not being consistent. You have no idea what to expect from a Mii. They change speed and power dependant on their size and weight, and their attacks are unknown until they start fighting. No two are usually the same.
That presents a bit of a major problem when people are trying to actually compete.

I agree that for a competitive format that is an issue, but they're still separate issues (equipment versus custom moves). Personally I'm fine with whatever format, but there should be a clear vote for each topic, such as yes/no for items, miis, custom moves, non-omega stages, etc.
I still think this needs its own thread but hey. Maybe created by an interested mod, stickied, with rules, brackets, and participants updated in the first post.
