Re: Super Smash Bros
Passing on some information from that same Smash Bros. site:
Sakurai: Not enough time to bring back every Smash Bros. character:
Sakurai Considering Mewtwo for Next Smash Bros. Games:
Sakurai says Smash Bros. roster selection stressful "almost to the brink of death":
Gotta love what the fans do to a franchise, huh?
Do you guys want me to keep posting this kind of stuff here? Or have most of you seen all this info already?
Sakurai: Not enough time to bring back every Smash Bros. character:
I think by this he means that characters like Roy, Dr Mario, Pichu and the like aren't going to be in there. Of course some guys I know are still flipping out about losing characters I consider to be safe bets.nintendoeverything.com wrote:Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai was recently asked if all characters who have previously appeared in the series will be back for the Wii U and 3DS games. The short answer is no.
Sakurai explained that the team simply doesn’t have enough time “to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point.”
He said:
“I can answer that: no. We don’t have the time to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point. Adding new characters is not a simple addition – it’s really multiplication. The amount of work, adding a character is multiplied and becomes bigger and bigger as you go. We can’t because of the amount of work it takes. However, I do believe I understand that each character has its own set of fans out there who really like that character. So we’re not going to cut characters out of the way, we’re going to put in as many characters as we can, we really want to do that, because it’s good for the fans and good for all of us. But in the event that we do have to cut some characters, I’d like to apologise in advance to those fans.”
Sakurai Considering Mewtwo for Next Smash Bros. Games:
Could have been more of a joke than a serious statement from Sakurai, but I personally think Mewtwo's return is highly likely.nintendoworldreport.com wrote:Mewtwo may return in Smash Bros., possibly with his new X and Y form.
During last week’s Cockfighting Society X and Cockfighting Society Y Developer Roundtable at E3 there was a Q & A session with Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of the Cockfighting Society Company, and Junichi Masuda, Director at Game Freak. I was fortunate enough to ask the men the following question:
“Can you go into more detail on how Mewtwo changes forms, and would you like this new form to appear in the new Smash Bros.?”
Upon asking this question the audience burst into laughter. Both Tsunekazu Ishihara and Junichi Masuda also had a surprised look on their face and appeared to not know how to safely answer the question. Sakurai was also in the audience and looked as if he were thinking, “Oh man, not this again!” after the question was asked.
After a brief moment of silence, Ishihara and Masuda answered by saying they don’t have anything to announce about the new Cockfighting Society (Mewtwo’s new form) today, and that they can’t speak on its appearance in other games. Sakurai then shouted out, from the audience, “We are thinking about it.”
Sakurai says Smash Bros. roster selection stressful "almost to the brink of death":
I feel for Sakurai, really I do. He set out to make the first game for a bit of fun and now the franchise is nothing but a headache for him.gamespot.com wrote:Super Smash Bros. designer Masahiro Sakurai doesn't take character selection for the popular fighting game series lightly. Speaking with Polygon, Sakurai said the decision process comes with almost more stress than he can handle.
"The amount of stress I feel, it's almost to the brink of death," Sakurai said.
Selecting a roster for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS Smash Bros. game was no walk in the park because balance, animation, graphics, and sound must all be considered when choosing a new character, Sakurai said.
"Because it's not just a matter of me personally thinking this character or that character is going to be in the game," he said. "It's that we also have the game balance, animation, graphics, and sound to think about in order to make that character fully fleshed out in that universe. I have to think about all of that when I go through this decision-making process."
Gotta love what the fans do to a franchise, huh?
I'm sure the projected release date will slip, though.gamespot.com wrote:Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

So Lucario is most definitely out, and he's my main.
As long as Lucas is back I'm fine.

Re: Super Smash Bros
Even if we do lose some characters I can live with it; I can appreciate the pressure on Sakurai and that he's in a difficult position and that he can't ever please everybody with this kind of game.
He's really not out to upset or let anybody down.

Oh yeah, I'm totally fine with whatever happens, I just really hope Lucas stays in.
Or at least Jigglypuff, but since she was in the first, I think she's going to be a constant.

Re: Super Smash Bros
Some of the character doubles I can live without, like Link and Toon link.
No matter what I sure as hell will be pop flyin' with the game.
Also, I wonder if they would consider DLC characters after the game has been out for a while.

Re: Super Smash Bros
Yeah, SKRAI said he doesn't think about DLC or patches when developing the game but he did say they'd look into it anyway.

Re: Super Smash Bros
That's actually rather sweet.
I feel bad for the guy, he's got so much fucking pressure on him, I don't think he or anyone else at Nintendo expected SSB to become such a giant fighting game staple, with all the cons that come with it.

Re: Super Smash Bros
I hope they let him do his own thing once these are done, I feel like he could do something amazing if he got some more breathing room from Nintendo. Though admittedly that's kind of selfish of me, I loved Kid Icarus Uprising and want to see him do more fantastic games that aren't Smash Bros.
